Brazilian Partner from São Paulo) sought for Bioeconomy International Call 2015: "Succinic Acid Production from Pentose in Integrated Biorefinery System"
Summary:
A German biotech and materials technology private research institute is preparing a project proposal in response to the bilateral call: Bioeconomy International 2015, Module 3: Bio-Germany/São Paulo". They are looking for one or more companies or research organisations in the Brazilian state São Paulo with strong expertise in organic acid production via bacterial fermentation and genetic modification of microorganisms.
Description:
The German institute is involved in the conversion of biomass to value added products and energy since 2003. In this field four national and two European research and innovation projects are currently running. The general goal is the complete utilization of agricultural co-products, which are not in competition with the food industry, using a biorefinery concept. Among other things, a well elaborated physico-chemical pretreatment technology shall be integrated and adapted to new processes for the valorisation of agricultural plant waste streams.

The project aims at the fermentative production of succinic acid using pentose as carbon and energy source while at the same time CO2 from biorefinery pro-cesses is fixated. The succinic acid production module developed in this project will be integrated into a biorefinery system resulting in synergistic effects.

It will respond to the International German / South-American Call: Bioeconomy International 2015, Module 3:Bio-Germany/São Paulo
Subtopic adressed:
"Conversion/Processing of sustainably produced, non-food biomass to bio-based products"
The deadline for submitting proposals for the first stage in this two stage evaluation scheme is the 3th June. Deadline for expressions of Interest is the 29th May.

Academia, research organisations and industry are eligible for funding. Research driven companies or research organisations are sougt that ideally can provide optimized succinic acid producing microorganisms, and have expertise in molecular biology.
Advantages and Innovations:
Agricultural plant residues are excellent sources for high value mono- and biopolymers

Excellent thermo-plastic properties of end-products

Broad market applications and high demand for bio-materials
Stage of Development:
Proposal under development
Technical Specification or Expertise Sought:
Partners should have high expertise and proven track records in microbiology and molecular biology .
