Description:
A Greek university active in ichthyology science is interested in implementing a project in the field of seafood processing under COFASP-MARINE biotechnology joint transnational call (JTC) 2016.

Industrial processing of marine biomass has an unrealized and large potential to increase its economic value by developing more efficient processing methods and utilizing better the different valuable fractions (proteins, fat, carbohydrates, minerals, pigments, polysaccharides etc).

With aim to exploit better the materials along the value chain, seafood processing and by-products from marine activities like aquaculture, harvesting and fisheries should be utilized. More efficient processing methods can be developed by applying enzymes for more cost-effective and environmental friendly processing solutions as well as enhanced processing conditions that provide higher quality products or create innovative new processes for valorisation of seafood. Furthermore the aim of the project is to utilize as much as possible biomass when processing seafood so that that the high-value products can be produced from fractions which are today considered as by-products.
