Erasmus+: looking for Western Balkan universities focusing and interested in entrepreneurship and multidisciplinary in higher education
An academic partnership led by an Italian University is looking for Balkan universities interested to join a project focusing on sharing, development and adoption of entrepreneurial and multidisciplinary programmes in Higher Education.
The partnership, which is already in contact with a few Balkan centres, intends to extend the participation in the area, including universities interested to adapt and experiment novel approaches. Deadline Erasmus+ call Capacity Building is February 9.
In the Entrepreneurship 2020 Action Plan the promotion of entrepreneurship education (EE) was identified as one of three key objectives. The positive effects of EE at a social level include initiation of students´ interest in new business activities and start-ups; entrepreneurship alumni are at lower risk of being unemployed, and are more often in steady employment (ICF Consulting Service, 2015, "Entrepreneurship Education: a road to success").

Presently education to entrepreneurship is typically limited within business and economics departments of Universities or within business schools. There is a very limited presence of courses in entrepreneurship within technical, scientific and humanistic departments (European Commission, 2008, "Entrepreneurship in Higher Education Institutions, Especially In Non-Business study"). This approach seriously limits the potential for innovation and entrepreneurial initiatives among higher education students: those enrolled in Business and Economics degrees lack the technical and social knowledge required to successfully develop new ventures, while those enrolled in technical or humanistic degrees lack Business and Economics knowledge. Such silos of knowledge and competences imply that students develop an academic background neither versatile nor open to the labour market dynamism (OECD, 2008, Entrepreneurship and Higher Education", chapter 5).

Thus, this project aims to support higher education institutions to implement the necessary reforms in line with the European Commission priority areas: increase attainment levels; improve the quality and relevance of higher education; strengthen quality through mobility and cross-border cooperation; make the knowledge triangle work; improve governance and funding. In particular the project involves activities that help attune curricula to current and emerging labour market needs and equip the young generation with transversal skills, particularly entrepreneurship, adopting a multidisciplinary approach and mixing competencies, learners and teachers from different areas.

This is performed through cooperation among HEIs based in Italy, Greece, Finland and Western Balkan countries where the experiences shared by the partners will be adapted and turned into training programs that aims to promote entrepreneurship education among young people (at graduate and post-graduate level), through an innovative, multidisciplinary and learner-centred approach, supported by forms of mobility for staff and learners.

The current partnership is very focused on the relevant topics addressed by the proposal and well balanced in terms of disciplinary perspectives, with diversified and consolidated experiences on entrepreneurship.

Although contacts with Western Balkan Universities already exist, at least one additional partners (i.e. universities) in each of the Western Balkan countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Serbia) are sought. Partners must be definitely commited to share, experiment and adopt such methodologies within their curricula. Thus, partners will be ready to mainstream the project results into their teaching program.

The deadline for the call of the Erasums+ Programme, Key Action 2 - Capacity Building, is February 9.
Expressions of interests are expected by February 1st at the latest.
