Una pyme coreana que fabrica componentes electrónicos de plástico de alta precisión, moldes, lentes y sensores está desarrollando un sensor de seguridad 3D. Este sensor evita accidentes producidos por puertas automáticas y puertas de ascensores o vehículos detectando la variación de capacidad en un entorno 2D o 3D. Se busca un investigador interesado en colaborar en el desarrollo de un módulo con tecnología SoC (System on Chip) y del software o en el diseño del sensor dentro de un proyecto Eureka. La fecha límite de la convocatoria es a finales de marzo de 2016 y el plazo para presentar expresiones de interés finaliza a finales de febrero.

Summary:
A Korean SME, manufacturing high precision plastic electronic parts, molds, lenses and sensors, has invented a 3D safety sensor but at the development phase. It prevents jamming accidents arising from automatic doors, elevators or vehicle´s doors by detecting the variance of capacitance in 2D or 3D environment. The company is looking for an R-Y-D partner who can collaborate to develop a module including SoC(System on Chip), software work or sensor designing under the EUREKA project.
Description:
Since a lot of accidents have occurred recently, people are getting more concerned for safety. These safety accidents result in damage socially and financially.

The means of transportation is advanced and diversified, relevant accidents are increasing. Among the accidents, people get injured by jamming from vehicle´s window or door, especially children from school bus and old people from transportation vehicles. There are more accidents from automatic doors from buses, subways and platform screen doors. In addition, accidents by not concentrating on driving while operating navigators or smart phones are pretty much common these days. In case of safety accidents from residential environment there are accidents from elevators, jamming accidents from automatic doors at shopping malls, offices and apartments, accidents from industrial environment.

Therefore, people have been seeking solutions and there are two.

First, living safety matters can be solved by strengthening individual´s consciousness of safety because most of the accidents happen due to people´s negligence on safety.

Second, by utilizing 3D safety sensor applying to automatic doors people can prevent accidents. Safety sensors with low cost, small size, low power consumption and high reliability can be applied in real life.
Currently, there are two types of sensors which are a touch type sensor and a non-touch type sensor. Both of them have disadvantages.
As for touch type sensor, jamming prevention is working by pressure sensor or by detecting over current. Consequent accidents may occur because sensor detects an object after it contacts the sensor. Also, it is hard to prevent accidents because the control timing is too short.
As for non-touch type sensor, representatively, Infrared (IR) sensors are utilized to prevent jamming accidents. It is difficult to minimize receivers and transmitters which should exist separately. Also, blind spots exist between each receiver. Moreover, malfunction may occur due to smoke, dust, snow or rain.

The problems arising from previous sensors can be solved by 3D non-touch safety sensors which sense the variance of capacitance.

Therefore, the company is looking for a European partner who can collaborate with each other to develop SoC(System on Chip) type of safety sensor through bilateral joint R-Y-D project or Eureka project. Companies with technologies such as radio frequency(RF) printed circuit board(PCB) designing, automatic door controls, communication modules etc which will accelerate the development can be possible R-Y-D partners.

The deadline of applying EUREKA proposal is by the end of September, 2016, so the company would like to recieve expressions of interest by the end of August.
