EUROSTARS: Biotech SME or CRO specialized in preclinical cardiovascular research in mammal model and a consultancy to write the proposal are sought
Summary:
Catalan SME is preparing a proposal for the EUROSTARS programme. The aim of the project is to design a new phenotypic drug discovery platform to find new cardioprotective drugs and drugable cardioprotective biomarkers. Biotech SME or CRO to test compounds in mammals cardiotoxic model and a consultancy to write the proposal are sought.
Description:
Cardiovascular diseases cause 30% of disease-related deaths per year and costs associated to their treatment represent the major burden to our health systems. Novel therapies are needed urgently to reduce both deaths and economic burden.
Catalan SME has developed a technology that allows analysing multiple parameters inherent to the physiology of the heart and vascular system zebrafish and now is generating a pharmacological model of cardiotoxicity in zebrafish in which potential cardioprotective drugs can be tested.

The Catalan company together with a Dutch partner will apply for funding in the frame of Eurostars/Eureka programme for a phenotypic drug discovery pipeline designed to find new cardioprotective drugs.
Three major outputs will be delivered: 1. finding new cardioprotective drugs to be posteriorly licensed. 2. Finding novel druggable cardioprotective markers. 3. Setting up a cardioprotective drug discovery platform to offer to third companies

The Dutch partner will be in charge of in vitro studies testing 100,000-compounds library searching for molecules with cardioprotective potential and Catalan SME will test 200 hits in zebrafish-based pharmacological-induced model of cardiotoxicity. The aim of the project will be to define Mechanism-of-Action (MoA) and target for the 5 best lead candidate for further drug development

Overview:
Catalan SME will be the coordinator of the project and has already built the work-package structure and started the proposal writing together with Dutch partner.
