Un consorcio busca socios interesados en participar en un proyecto con el fin de desarrollar un modelo de predicción de cosechas utilizando la evolución espacio-temporal de la vegetación e imágenes de drones y satélites. Su principal novedad frente a los sensores remotos convencionales es el modelo de predicción preciso, en 3D y volumétrico. El objetivo del proyecto es observar, medir y clasificar el crecimiento de los cultivos mediante el uso de drones e imágenes de los satélites Copérnico y VHR. El análisis espectral y espacial estima la calidad, área y volumen de los cultivos. La fecha límite de la convocatoria es el 14 de septiembre de 2017.

Summary:
SME from Cyprus is looking for partners to develop a "harvest prediction" model by employing the space-time evolution of vegetation canopy and imagery from drones and satellites. The proposal will be submitted in the Eurostars Call (deadline 14th of September 2017) and is looking for partners to work on the algorithms of the prediction model as well as carry out the market analysis and develop the business model for commercialization of the product.
Description:
The vegetables and fruits have planting, growing and harvesting periods in their life cycle. Their radiometric (color, spectral reflectance, etc.) and geometric (dimension, height, etc.) properties at the planting and especially at the growing periods bear meaningful information about their future condition at the final harvesting period. The project will utilise this fact by monitoring the greengrocery farms in the spatiotemporal domain. For this purpose, drone and satellite imagery at multiple time epochs will be acquired during the planting and growing seasons.
The goal of the project is to develop a prediction model in order to estimate the volume and quality of the crop to be harvested. The main result is the overall methodology and the associated software package which are going to be designed, realised, validated and commercialised during the project period.

The consortium is looking for partners active in algorithm developement and validation for the agriculture and agrofood sectors in specific, to work on the prediction model.

The consortium also requires a partner who will be respobsible for the business and commercialization plan.

The Eurostars Call deadline is on the the 14th of September, the deadline for EoIs has been extended for better preparation and selection of the right partner.
Advantages and Innovations:
The project´s key innovation is the prediction model which is accurate and fully 3D hence volumetric vs 2D conventional remote sensing methods.

Large food wholesale companies bid the farmers for their crops much earlier than the harvesting season. They predict the harvest size and quality using the conventional agricultural techniques and sometimes by local experiences and empirical methods. The accuracy of this prediction will directly influence the supply and demand chain, consequently on the final food prices at the retail market. The envisaged system will provide a very accurate prediction model, thus will help to regulate the food market with fair prices.

The first prospective partner, to be a company, research institution or university, will be responsible to design the "harvest prediction model" at the algorithmic level and to test and to validate it with real world data and scenarios. The partner should have solid background and knowledge in the agriculture and agrofood domains. Specific skills and experiences are required on the harvest monitoring and prediction studies. 2. The second prospective partner, to be a small, medium or large sized wholesale company, is responsible for market analysis, business model and support the commercialisation of the project´s product. This partner might be a wholesale company, which might operate in buying of vegetable and fruit kind of foods from the greengrocery farms.
