El proyecto incluye actividades de sensibilización para concienciar a los jóvenes sobre los diferentes aspectos de la ciencia y tecnología en su contexto social y abordar los desafíos de los jóvenes al cursar carreras en STEM (Ciencia, Tecnología, Ingeniería y Matemáticas). The project is will include awareness-raising activities for young boys' and girls' awareness of the different aspects of science and technology in their societal content and to address the challenges faced by young people when pursuing careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths).
Description:
The Horizon 2020 call is SEAC-1-2015 - Innovative ways to make science education and scientific careers attractive to young people.

The education service within the authority will serve as the main point of contact for the project. The service itself covers such areas as Adult Learning and skills, Early Years provision, School leadership and governance, Inclusion and attainment for pupils with learning difficulties/special educational needs as well as coordinating the council's 'Trading with schools' business unit.

As such, the service has been involved in a number of EU / public funded projects in the past, specifically under the ERASMUS and Marie Sklodowska-Curie research exchange programmes.

As per the scope of the call itself, tasks to be performed include delivery of innovative, forward-looking science education methods and/or on incentives and measures to make scientific and technological careers attractive to young students, including actions addressing the challenges in offering long term career perspectives. e.g. helping young people work with open-access educational resources; become familiar with the use of science media; make the link between creativity and science; appreciate the relevance of gender balance and dimension in research; understand the practical value of research ethics and integrity; actions.

Project partners and projects should foster sustainable and cross-cutting interaction between the different levels of the education system, research institutions and other establishments, industry, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs). Such proposals shall improve the attractiveness of science education and scientific careers to young people; address challenges in offering long term career perspectives, as well as raise awareness of the importance of trans-disciplinary research and Responsible Research and Innovation in the education system.

The service will contribute to innovative awareness-raising activities to promote STEM subjects with pupils both from within the local authority delivery areas plus utilising contacts within the UK labour market.

The establishment of a link with SCIENTIX - The Community for Science Education in Europe - will also be made.

Project partners will include City Authorities and Municipalities who will take a lead role in delivering science/technology outreach programmes within their area, working with experts in the areas of science and engineering within education to deliver innovative, forward-looking science education methods and incentives and measures to make scientific and technological careers attractive to young students.

The submission deadline for this call is 16th September 2015 and all Expressions of Interest should be received by 28th August 2015. Project duration will be between 2-3 years.
