H2020: Looking for partners on circular economy: Only industrial and consumer associations
Summary:
A Spanish Technology Centre is preparing a proposal for the H2020 Call "Industry 2020 in the circular economy". The project aims to develop and implement new services associated to a holistic process to improve the circular economy of bio-waste in Europe. The centre is looking for partners, industrial and consumer association, to participate in the validation/execution of the demonstrators.
Description:
The European bio-waste management is not currently aligned with the circular economy as proposed by the EU Commission (EU Resource Efficiency Roadmap). More than 88 million tonnes of organic waste are produced per year in the EU28 (169 kg per EU citizen). More than 55% of EU bio-waste is not currently valorized. This represents a clear gap in the bio-waste market loop.

The main objective of the project is the development of a series of new services to be implemented in a holistic process that will improve the European circular economy of bio-wastes. With this in mind, a holistic treatment process will be developed for the reintroduction of bio-waste to the organic value chain.

The project approach is based on innovation in the five stages associated with bio-waste treatment: reuse, collection, transport, sorting and valorization.

Different approaches and systematic services will be defined and demonstrated across the five stages previously mentioned in urban areas, horeca, industry and retailers, promoting collaboration in all stages, citizens participation and co-design, compost, biofuel, biomaterials, etc.

The confirmed partners in the consortium and their roles in the project are currently:
- Spanish research centre - Coordination and management. Carrying out activities related to environmental impact, waste optimization, logistics, big data platform and biogas.
- Foundation promoted by the Valencia Town Council - Demonstrator in urban area, communication.
- Alba Iulia city - Demonstrator in urban area, communication.
- Spanish company that conducts its activity in the field of the environment - Collection optimization in Valencia demonstrator, big data platform, biogas.

- Consumer association: consumer acceptance, communication campaign.
- HORECA association (food service industry) or restaurant chain: demonstrators, big data platform, food waste reduction, sorting, etc.
- Retailer: demonstrators, big data platform, food waste reduction, sorting, etc.
- Food processing plant (meat): depackaging, reprocessing activities for a proper valorization.
- Food processing plant (vegetables): depackaging, reprocessing activities for a proper valorization.
- Equipment developer: design, production, installation and marketing of trammel equipment and turnkey installations for waste treatment.
- Company collecting food industry waste and transformin it for the production of feedstuff for animals.
