H2020 Clean Sky II JTI-CS2-2016-CFP04-ENG-03-14: Creating a novel and reliable model of fuel injection coking
Summary:
A skilled and high-performance French industrial group manufactures innovative and precise components and assemblies (notably injectors) for the aeronautical sector. In response to the H2020 Clean Sky II JTI-CS2-2016-CFP04-ENG-03-14 call, the French group is looking for partners from the industrial, research and academical sector. The partners are supposed to model the coking phenomenon and to implement it in a numerical simulation code.
Description:
Even nowadays coking is not a quite well known phenomenon. It is still very hard to predict its emergence. The criterion of roughness may be an important parameter influencing the coking. Therefore it is major to amplify the knowledge concerning this factor in order to be able to forecast the coking phenomenon.
An experienced and high-performance French industrial group, specialised in mechanical and hydraulic engineering, is looking for partners from the industrial research and academical sector (groups, SME, laboratories, research centres, universities, etc.) in order to respond to the H2020 Clean Sky II JTI-CS2-2016-CFP04-ENG-03-14 call.
The French group produces technical pieces and precise ensembles for the aeronautic, energy and defence sectors.
Within the framework of this H2020 project, the French group is able to manufacture turbine engine fuel injectors. These components are compounded by using conventional processes as well as by employing additive manufacturing.
Nevertheless, the French firm is not capable to perform on its own the other requested tasks of the project: modelisation of the coking phenomenon and the implementation in a numerical simulation code. Hence, it is seeking partners who are competent to take part in the project by introducing the following abilities:

- experience in the coking occurrence
- testing capacities in coking conditions
- research skills concerning the investigation of the sources of coking (notably roughness)

The call deadline will be the 05th October 2016.
The enterprise will be open for receiving expressions of interest until the 01st October 2016.
The project´s duration will be (approxemately) 36 months.
Advantages and Innovations:
Additive manufacturing is an innovating way of designing and manufacturing new fuel injectors for better performances in terms of fuel consumption and pollutant emissions.
But roughness, generated by additive manufacturing, may produce undesirable coking incompatible with the reliability requirements of such an equipment. In order to take the full benefit of the advantages of additive manufacturing applied to fuel injectors, it is mandatory to be able to predict the coking phenomenon.

Partner Sought:
The French group is looking for partners (industrial or research establishments) who are provided with the, in the description mentioned, skills in order to develop, altogether with the French group, an innovative and field-tested coking model and to introduce it in a numerical simulation code.
