H2020- ICT-11-2017. Partners sought (universities, associations, research institutions, local/regional governments, SMEs) related to urban allotments
Summary:
A Spanish SME specialised in the development of IT applications is preparing a project proposal to H2020- ICT-11-2017 call. The project will develop innovative ICT tools to foster the engagement of people, sharing information and creation of participation practices for the development of local urban allotments. The consortium looks for associations, universities, and local/regional governments with experience in urban allotments, and a SME with expertise in web development and social networks.
Description:
A Spanish company, a technology based firm founded in 2011 with expertise in software and hardware development, is coordinating a project proposal related to social innovation to be submitted to H2020- ICT-11-2017 call.

Urban gardening is not new in Europe, for many years it has created better living environment helping to green up the city, leisure and joy spaces for citizens. It increases the amount of food grown locally and the usage of valuable resources as compost with direct impact in the carbon footprint.

Urban development trends and challenges trigger new difficulties in gardening (lack of plots, ageing of gardeners, the lack of attractiveness to new plot holders, etc.). If allotments users and groups are opened to innovative ICTs apps, their ideas, knowledge, and information will spread in the society, benefit from other practices all over Europe and, not only, mitigate these emerging issues but to empower education, sustainable economy and reduce resource usage.

Although many initiatives have been created for urban gardening most of them embrace researching and scientific information, but none of them are focused on the usage of new technologies, management of allotment, shared information, user-oriented platforms and fostering relationships between local user, landlords, and public administrations.

The project proposal will be submitted to Horizon 2020 ICT-11-2017. The consortium is currently composed by two SMEs and a university and is looking for different partners: regional associations of urban allotments/urban gardens to carry out tests, research centers/universities with experience in the field, local institutes on charge of urban gardening development to pilot use cases and a SME with experience in social networks for web based developments.

Call deadline: 25th of April 2017
