Un centro de investigación francés está preparando una propuesta para el tema "Investigación avanzada y asimilación de capacidades robóticas" del programa H2020. El objetivo del proyecto es diseñar y probar un sistema multi-robot para la inspección de seguridad de estructuras críticas de forma rápida. El consorcio busca un usuario final (empresa que realice inspecciones de seguridad, autoridades normativas, autoridades locales, autoridades de seguridad civil o propietarios de estructuras o infraestructuras). La fecha límite de la convocatoria es el 25 de abril de 2017 y el plazo para presentar expresiones de interés finaliza el 25 de marzo.

Summary:
A French research organisation is preparing a proposal for the H2020 topic: "Advanced robot capabilities research and take-up" (ICT-25). The project aims at designing and demonstrating multi-robot system for fast safety inspection of critical structures. The consortium is looking for an end-user (company performing safety inspections, regulation authority, local authority, civil security authority or owner of structures or infrastructures that should be compliant).
Description:
Today teams of autonomous robots are working in an environment with little of very uncertain information about the semantic of what they perceive. Many of potential robotic applications cannot be designed and brought to the real life because of a poor quality of the detection, reconnaissance, identification and localization function.
For instance infrastructures cannot be inspected automatically by a team of robots because those would produce a large number of false detections and erroneous identification. Moreover, the robotic system would produce also a set of internal errors. Similar problems occur in other application domains: surveillance of large warehouses and ecological damage assessment...
It order to address this issue some generic information processing techniques shall be improved in terms of performance and robustness:
- Image processing, for detecting and recognizing objects in the environment that are relevant with respect to the objectives and constraints of the robot team (WP2)
- Multi-robot coordination, for providing simultaneously observations of the same object from different points of views, for covering rapidly large areas and for ensuring safe separation between robots (WP3)
- Planning, scheduling and assignment for translating high level mission objectives and constraints into a feasible set of tasks that can be coordinated (WP4)
- Fault detection and reconfiguration for ensuring the execution of the mission despite the fact that robots are subject to failures (WP5).

In order to have an impact in real life and bring those improvements at the workplace, the consortium includes not only a final user and laboratories but also an industrial from the robotic domain.

Advantages and Innovations:
The approach of the project consists in starting from the actual needs of an infrastructure manager in order to define requirements for the improvement of the generic information processing techniques (WP 1).
Then each technique is improved in function of the requirements (WP 2 to 5).
Finally the improvements are put together and demonstrated on a robotic platform (WP 6).
The progress and the synchronization of the work in the WP is managed globally (WP 0) and visibility is given to the results of the project (WP 7).
