H2020 MG-2.3-2016 Ship owners and ship operators active in offshore supply and survey are sought to establish a consortium for autonomous and remotely operated sailing
Summary:
A Dutch institute with a focus on maritime research is preparing a proposal for autonomous and remotely operated sailing with other partners to be submitted under the H2020 MG-2.3-2016 call. Ship owners and ship operators active in offshore supply and survey are sought to bring in a use case or demonstrator ship. Because of the composition of the consortium there is a strong preference for companies from France, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Greece.
Description:
In other transport modalities like automotive and trucking, research has already shown clearly the advantage of autonomous vehicles when it comes to safety, fuel saving and cost of personnel. However for waterborne transport this has not been examined. While the challenges for this sector with regard to sustainability, efficiency and safety are demanding. More specific it is about avoidance of dull, dirty and dangerous work.

A Dutch research institute is preparing a proposal with other partners for the H2020 MG-2.3-2016 call topic to research the benefits of autonomous and remotely operated sailing for specific use cases. The proposal includes a broad scope of activities such as the datacommunication technology, technology aboard, security aspects of the shore to ship connection, shore remote control center, automatic docking, cost aspects, regulations etc.. Important part of the project will be the building and testing of a demonstrator and/or the in depth study of a use case. For these ship owners and ship operators are sought.

Since the consortium so far consists of research institutes and equipment manufacturers mainly from northern European countries there is a strong preference for ship owners and/or ship operators from France, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Greece.

The deadline for the first stage of this two-stage call is 20.01.2016. The deadline for expressions of interest is 07.01.2016
