H2020-MSCA-IF: Looking for a full-stack software engineer interested in developing and deploying desktop and server-side applications for the life sciences sector.
A Spanish SME working in computational biology and bioinformatics seeks a full-stack software engineer with expertise in developing and deploying desktop and server-side applications for the life sciences sector. The company is preparing a proposal to be submitted to the next H2020-MSCA-IF call and they would like to count on the sought engineer for the project, aimed at developing a bioinformatic platform for cloud computing.
Omics technologies oriented to genetic diagnosis have triggered a new bioinformatic revolution at the full spectrum of Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) in order to develop tools able to manage and mine the biologically meaningful information of multiple omics (i.e. genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, etc.).

This is an emerging field in continuous progression in which the Spanish company is developing a bioinformatic platform for cloud computing that is composed of a server-side infrastructure that includes databases and pipelines plus a suite of desktop applications programmed in java. The suite is coupled to the server to allow the customers with informatic skills at the user level to manage cutting edge pipelines in remote session, while it also includes different tools for downstream analysis and knowledge discovery.

The project will be developed in a multidisciplinary group of investigators in a bioinformatic laboratory setting of ten individuals, including biologists, computer engineers, professional programmers, data analysts, and a scientific project manager.

The team has extensive expertise in next-generation sequencing (NGS), molecular evolution and evolutionary biology; and unique expertise in the development of bio-databases, state-of-the-art software design and computational pipelines for high-throughput techniques in industrial scenarios, global marketing and commercialization of novel bioinformatics software-based solutions.

The company also counts with a cluster of servers to host the company´s computational infrastructure of databases and pipelines on which their scientific services are based. With a strong research background, the company participates as a full partner in several H2020-MSCA consortia and performs fundamental and applied research.

The company seeks for a candidate to apply for the Marie S.-Curie Individual Fellowships (H2020-MSCA-IF-2017) call in the Society and Enterprise Panel [MSCA-IF-EF-SE], whose deadline is on September-14th. The objective of this panel is to facilitate career moves between the academic and non-academic sectors and to open attractive career opportunities for researchers outside academia, and its funding range was of ca. 36% in the last call.

REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must comply with the requirements settled by the MSCA-IF-EF-SE call: (1) At the date of the call deadline (14-Sep-2017) the applicant will be in possession of a doctoral degree or has at least four years of full-time equivalent research experience. This full-time equivalent research experience is measured from the date when a researcher obtained the degree entitling him/her to embark on a doctorate, either in the country in which the degree was obtained or in the country in which the researcher is recruited, even if a doctorate was never started or envisaged; (2) The applicant must not have resided or carried out the main activity in Spain for more than 36 months in the 5 years immediately before the call deadline.
IDEAL CANDIDATES - Researchers that comply with the requirements and that are full-stack software engineers with a PhD in bioinformatics and professional experience in developing and deploying desktop and server-side applications for the life sciences. Expertise in Java, machine learning algorithms, and formal grammars is highly recommendable. The candidate must be highly motivated, be an independent and critical thinker while working as part of a team, and possess excellent communication and data presentation skills.

Documents to be submitted and deadline for EOIs - CV and cover letter prior to June 26th 2017.
