H2020-S2RJU-2017 - Weight reduction by integration of railway vehicle components built using metal matrix (nano) Composites -Weigthless
Summary:
An East of England based university is leading an international consortium that is preparing a proposal for the H2020 Shift2Rail call on innovative materials -Y- modular designs for rolling stocks applications. The project will design, develop and built lightweight, highly railway vehicle components and subsystems with new Metal Matrix Composites (MMC) materials. They require a non- JU end user member to join the consortium with experience in the railway industry and mass production capabilities.
Description:
Railway vehicle weight is directly related to the fuel consumption which in turn is responsible for the CO2 emission - carbodyshell, access door systems, interior design, innovative seats- beside others contribute a large portion to it. This project aims to tackle this factor by manufacturing the selected parts form the stated components with engineered new class of materials. The components will be manufactured using Metal Metrix Composites (MMC) with the incorporation of novel materials.

This project will develop an improve the performance of the technology that will add value by economically manufacturing automotive chassis and engine components using engineered new proposed materials.

The consortium is looking for a non- JU end user member to join the consortium with experience in the railway industry and a capability of mass production

Call Deadline - 30th March 2017
Deadline for EOIs - 28th March 2017
Advantages and Innovations:
