Description:
The quick and cost-effective detection of the corona-virus is something vital for the good control of the epidemic. Most of the current techniques for detection are based on biological tests and their results are not very promising with non-detection rates.

The proposed project includes a new electric filtering system for virus based on the size and shape of the virus. Very promising results have been already achieved with other virus during the last years and now, it is the perfect time to extrapolate the results to the corona-virus.

The project will have a first part of technical development using particles with similar sizes than the target virus and a second phase for validation in a hospital (required partner) with real samples infected with the virus. No special expertise is required beyond the capacity of handling infected samples. It entails the need of the bio-safety procedures up to level 3.

The tentative duration of the project is 2 years and the validation part will take place during the last 6 months.

The funding program is H2020-SC1-PHE-CORONAVIRUS-2020-2D with a deadline in June, 11, 2020. Within H2020 program.

Deadline for expression of interest: June, 5, 2020.

The potential impact of the innovation is huge: a new, high-effective and cheap solution for the virus detection will disrupt the market.

Partner Sought:
The required partner can be a hospital or other company with the capacity of handling real biological samples infected with the virus. The activities planned for the partner in the project is the validation of the instrument developed in the project in the premises of the partner. The instrument will be installed in the premises and people from the hospital will be trained to use it. The hospital will also participate in the development of the validation plan and they will execute it in collaboration with the partners. The hospital will also participate in the interpretation of the results.
