H2020-SPIRE-03-2016: Looking for SMEs or large enterprises from food and paper industry to join our research group
Summary:
A research team from a Greek research centre is preparing a project proposal for H2020-SPIRE-03-2016-one-stage with deadline the 21st of January 2016. The proposed project aims at developing both cost-effective production processes of existing in the market bio-based products, plus not yet commercially available highly innovative products by their waste streams. The team is seeking SMEs (or large enterprises) to complement a competitive consortium.
Description:
Bio-resources contain valuable substances for the production of high added value chemicals and bio-materials (e.g. sugars, fatty acids, amino acids, alcohols, resins, fibres, aromatic substances, proteins).

The main goal of the proposed project is to introduce renewable raw material into the value chains of the industries involved in the proposal by introducing low-cost and low-energy demand technologies namely, recently developed membrane separation one, catalytic systems as well as, supercritical fluid extraction technology in conversion of organic wastes to platform chemicals. The project addresses the main cost drivers and technical barriers of the conventional biomass treatment processes to produce high added value products.

Bio-based resources constitute a valuable source of sustainable raw materials for Europe, but currently they are not utilised in an optimal way. Furthermore, these bio-based streams could provide access to new building blocks and products with added functionalities, which are currently not commercially available, thus opening new market opportunities for industry. The proposed project introduces two concepts for a wider utilisation of such bio-resources, based on the development of technologies for the efficient processing, isolation, fractionation and purification of these waste and side streams, which are essential to efficiently recover valuable bio-components, while maintaining key chemical functionalities present in bio-based molecules.

The team is seeking SMEs (or large enterprises) from the following sectors to complement a competitive consortium.

·Cereal manufacturer (food industry), or
·Paper manufacturer, or
·Coffee manufacturer.
