Description:
A German SME is an expert for digital twin technology related to construction. Together with a consortium they will participate in the call: HORIZON-CL4-2021-TWIN-TRANSITION-01-12: New breakthrough technologies for technological sovereignty in construction (RIA).

There is a global trend for higher digitalisation in the construction sector. In this context, there is a major need to ensure that construction activities in countries in Europe do not depend on breakthrough technologies the industry concerned needs to import from outside Europe to remain competitive. Currently, the construction sector is among the least automated and digitised and the most labour accident-prone sectors in the Europe. Therefore, the use of technologies such as additive manufacturing, autonomous vehicles and human robot collaboration in a construction environment is crucial to increase the degree of digitalisation of the sector. In addition, EU member states are facing a shortage of skilled labour force in construction activities. In the same vein, a higher degree of digitalisation would make the construction sector attractive for younger generations and construction sites a safer working environment. Proposal consortiums are encouraged to include a wide range of stakeholders from SMEs to large construction firms.

The main aim of their project is to research and develop cognitive construction robots consisting of mobile manipulation platforms that are custom-tailored to the construction needs. They will be capable of addressing the entire cycle of infrastructure construction, monitoring and maintenance by performing autonomous modelling, construction and post-repair monitoring in construction sites. A demonstration of the envisioned system in real-life construction sites (bridges, tunnels, different types of buildings) is foreseen.

The current consortium consists of academic partners with expertise in robotics cognition, in vision based solutions, in manipulation in robotic systems, in machine learning, robot manipulation and in robot simulation

There are furthermore six SMEs involved among others with expertise in 3D printing robotic solution, robot platforms, in usability Studies, end user development and user-based evaluations

There are larger industrial partners from construction industry, engineering and material supply.

Various countries are covered. The partner sought should be from Japan or South Korea and carry out digitalization tasks to understand and model construction sites and activities. The partner can be either a research organisation or an SME. A research cooperation agreement is to be concluded for this call.
