Una pyme italiana busca pymes que contribuyan al desarrollo de un nuevo recipiente de agua hecho de PET, con una capacidad de 12 litros y que utilice 120 gramos de plástico. El objetivo es obtener un producto totalmente reciclable. La empresa va a estudiar la oportunidad de presentar la idea a la convocatoria Instrumento PYME fase 2 o a la acción piloto FTI.

An Italian SME is looking for partner SMEs to contribute to the creation of a new water container in PET (12 liters), using as low as 120 gr of plastic, obtaining a completely recyclable container.The project partners and the proponent will evaluate the is opportunity to submit the idea for SME Instrument Phase 2 or FTI Pilot.
Nowadays, drinking water for offices and community is distributed in 5-10 liters containers made of polycarbonate. Such containers are then fixed on the top of a distributing machine, from which people can take water and fill a glass. The process of extracting water from such containers often causes some air to flow into the container itself, damaging the quality of the water inside. These damages increase as time passes for the use of the containers themselves. Recently, in the US, polycarbonate has been declared "carcinogen". Such containers use a lot of polycarbonate in terms of grams, and are re-usable but not recyclable.
The project idea is to develop a new water container in PET (12 liters), using as low as 120 gr of plastic, obtaining a container completely recyclable.
The idea is to develop a collapsible container, preventing air from flowing into the container, not damaging the quality of the drinking water inside.
Once empty, the water container will be completely collapsed, reducing the volume to be disposed and managed for recycling, thus reducing the costs and the environmental impact of the related logistic.
To be collapsible, the container must be specially designed, starting from the PET preform.
The preform should then be stretch-blown by a specific design stretch-blowing machine for obtaining the container.
Finally, materials different from PET could be studied, both plastic or bio-plastic. For example, the polypropylene could be investigated (reduced cost, but not total barrier against odors, which could be solved using additives) and bio-plastic could be studied for this application.
The new container could then be completely recycled.

Companies using the following machines are needed for the process:
- Stretch-blowing machine: an Ukrainian partner, or an Austrian partner could supply this machine in the project. This machine needs to have particular functions in order to assure the collapsibility of the new water container.
- Filling machine: The company will design and build it. Needs a particular filling technology in order not to damage the collapsible bottle during the filling, and needs to install a particular handle on the same bottle.
- Packaging machine: carton or plastic. A Spanish partner could supply such machine for the project.
- Dispenser machine for the distribution of water.
