INTER-REG Demonstration platform for water innovation, a European approach
Summary:
A Scottish consortium is developing an INTER-REG application to build a network of European based demonstration facilities for water innovation testing and verification. The project will provide a partnership which has access to a range of strategic assets for the purposes of supporting commercialisation of innovation within the water sector. The body seeks national or regional water companies, regulative authorities, research institutes and universities from North West Europe as partners.
Description:
A Scottish consortium is developing an INTER-REG application to to build a network of European based demonstration facilities for water innovation testing and verification. The demonstration centres will be certified to ISO17020 and comply with the EU Pilot ETV (Environmental Technology Verification) Scheme and ISO17034.

This project will bring together partners across North West Europe who operate in the water and waste water sector, selected from countries and regions which have specific and similar challenges and an ambition to solve these challenges through collaboration and innovation. The demonstration centre project will be the first collaborative approach to solve practical transnational challenges in the water sector. The partners will facilitate acceleration of the development of near to market solutions through a test and demonstration on live water and water treatment assets. The centre will solve common challenges, nationally, through joint research, prototype development, demonstrating and testing.

The Centre will operate as a virtual centre, coordinating verification of technology through existing, operational water and waste water assets which provide a range of test conditions for SMEs and innovations. The assets will include ISO-17025 certified laboratories for the provision of testing and data that fulfils the required verification and test plans. The virtual centre will also act as a verification body to ISO-17020 and ISO-14034.

The proposed partnership covers the principle areas of interest within water management:
· Catchment Management and the environment
· Managed drinking water systems and distribution
· Managed wastewater treatment systems and collection
· Flooding
· Risk, Governance and management
· Monitoring and Modelling

The partnership will offer a comprehensive set of testing facilities, test assets and technical experts that can be accessed by the SME community in Scotland, the UK and Europe. The partnership will work together as a virtual innovation park for the water community, helping to accelerate innovation into commercial growth opportunities. The added value that the partnership provides is not limited to Europe as the partners currently work with across other countries and continents.

The call deadline is 27 May 2016, with a deadline for Expressions of Interest by 30 April 2016.
