INTERREG VA FCE Priority 3, Seeking local tourism/fisheries in Nord Pas De Calais and/or Normandie to join funding bid to develop new tourism model in support of small-scale fishing (SSF)
Summary:
A UK university is part of a consortium applying for INTERREG (Inter-regional) funding to develop a new model of promoting the value of small-scale fishing (SSF) in coastal communities, where the practice is under-exploited by urban planning, and tourism and fisheries management. They are seeking French businesses, specifically from the regions of Nord Pas De Calais and Normandie with expertise in tourism or with links to local SSF, to join the bid and help develop this new community model.
Description:
Small-scale fishing fleets distributed throughout many coastal towns in the France-England Channel area contribute to a distinctive sense of place. However, the potential of SSF to deliver social, economic and community well-being is under-exploited in urban planning, tourism development and fisheries management.

This situation has been created owing to a lack of synergy between different areas of policy making and undervaluing the importance of SSF. Despite moves towards approaches based around integrated coastal zone management and ecosystem services there is still a knowledge gap about how to understand the potential benefits that SSF can bring to coastal localities. This is problematic, as the presence of a strong, vibrant fishing community can contribute to sustainable community development and stimulate opportunities for economic growth and regeneration.

A UK university is part of a major consortium applying for funding through the INTERREG programme to fulfil the following aims:

To stimulate sustainable development (economic, social and environmental) in coastal towns by creating a responsible tourism
