Una universidad italiana busca socios industriales interesados en participar en un consorcio y presentar una propuesta H2020 FETOPEN. El proyecto tiene como objetivo el diseño, modelización y fabricación de un nuevo equipo que permita a los usuarios evaluar el rendimiento de materiales de la construcción. Los socios buscados deben tener experiencia en desarrollo y fabricación de componentes para construir fachadas (acristalamientos, ventanas, muros cortina, etc.). La fecha límite de la convocatoria es el 27 de septiembre de 2017 y el plazo para presentar expresiones de interés finaliza el 15 de julio.


Italian University seeks industrial partner working on building industry to join its H2020 Fetopen proposal
An Italian University is looking for industrial partners to take part in their consortium for a H2020 FETOPEN proposal through a research cooperation agreement. The project aims to design, model and manufacture an innovative set-up that will allow users to assess different performance of building materials. The sought partners should be companies experienced in developing and manufacturing components for building facades (glazing, windows, curtain walls, etc).
The University and its current partners are looking for a specialized partner to take part in the project that comes as response to a H2020 FETOPEN-01-2016-2017 topic. The cooperation between the consortium and the targeted partner will be based on a research cooperation agreement. The current consortium consists of the Italian University, a Swiss SME and an Italian SME.

The project aims at unifying the different approaches derived from each single macroscopic property analysis, looking for analytical correlations which link, as widely as possible, all the physical parameters above-mentioned, since a holistic knowledge cannot disregard their interactions.The thermal, acoustical and hygrometric properties of building materials and components are usually studied separately. The theories derived from the research in each single field generated physic laws embracing separately parameters such as, for instance, temperature for thermal issues, tensional stress for mechanical resistance, humidity content for hygrometry, sound pressure for acoustics and wavelength dependent energy for radiation and lighting.

The instrument to reach this ambitious objective will be constituted by an original laboratory designed to contemporary control and measure all the variables of interest, preparing the experimental base for the development of unified theories. The experimental data retrieved from the laboratory will constitute the foundations for the definition of innovative theoretical relationships among the physical parameters, to be developed throughout the project.
The new apparatus is the development of the device for measuring thermal insulation of windows (Hot Box), of which the project coordinators are experts in both design and construction. The prototype of Hot Box, developed at the University, was the subject of a patent, and two new improved versions were built for two other European Universities. A request for an Italian patent for the industrial invention was presented by the University in 2016.

Advantages and Innovations:
The proposed equipment is aimed at achieving the following advances respect to the state-of-the-art:
a) integration of thermal, hygrometric, radiative, lighting, acoustic, and mechanical properties measurement on a unique apparatus, an original holistic approach for materials properties investigation. This characteristic of the new laboratory constitutes an initial contribution in the almost unexplored field of finding the theoretical relationships among the different physical properties of materials and components;
b) definition of new correlations among acoustic insulation mapping, stress analysis mapping, local air and water leakages, and thermal insulation mapping of the material-component; interactions among thermal and humidity bridges and structural properties of the material-component;
c) measurements of thermal, hygrometric and radiative properties of materials and components in unsteady-state conditions, preparing the basis for new standards;
d) full field stress analysis with thermoelastic effect investigation; the method is quite unconventional in itself and it results original if applied under controlled environmental conditions;
e) sound insulation and absorption measurements through sound intensity directly measured by means of an array of pressure-velocity probes; this can be considered a frontier technique, especially when conducted varying the thermophysical boundary conditions;
f) gathering of experimental data for the creation of datasets aimed at validating computational models, a supplementary investigation tool particularly useful to reduce the amount of experimental tests.
