Summary:
Optics engineering and system designing/developing/integrating/prototyping SME from Latvia is seeking for partners (optics expert SME and system integrator) in H2020 SME Instrument Phase 2 project proposal (cut-off date 03.02.2016). Objective of the project will be development of automated fluorescence microscope imaging system for scanning pre-treated food samples for detection and counting of microorganisms.
Description:
The SME - project coordinator is a start-up from Latvia, active in engineering, system designing, and prototyping of diagnostic devices and tests in microbiology. The company is going to submit a project proposal in Horizon 2020 SME Instrument Phase 2 call with cut-off date 03.02.2016.
Aim of the project will be to design an industrially sustainable system for rapid quantitative analysis of microbial cells present in food samples. The system will consist of fluorescent microscopy station, unique software algorithms and proprietary microbiological organism detection method. The main objective of the project will be to design and demonstrate high-throughput system for rapid microbiological detection of yeasts and moulds in food production. Currently the project coordinator and its partner (both SME companies from Latvia) have developed a system prototype.
The company is looking for a project partner - SME company eligible to participate in H2020 SME Instrument call. The company should be experienced in optic system designing and development and to act as system integrator during the project.
The project coordinator company has experience in microbiological method development for rapid organism detection in food samples. The existing and project partner company has experience in image recognition, mechatronics, software and complicated algorithm development. Both partners have already developed first pilot station with applicable software, which is successfully operated in laboratory conditions. The project partners´ knowledge has to be combined to build an industrially sustainable and market applicable automated microscopy system.
Requested partner should have major experience in optics system design and development, supported by according project portfolio. The planned duration of the project will be 24 months.
Project proposal documentation is under development.
Deadline for expression of interest is 23.12.2015.
Advantages and Innovations:
The testing system developed during the project will significantly enhance sustainability of food production for food industry companies, e.g. dairies, where yeasts and moulds are one of the main causes of food spoilage in final products. With the proposed solution it will be possible to replace standard time-consuming plating methods for yeast and mould. The innovative technology will reduce testing time from 5 days to 30 minutes. This will be an ultimate tool for monitoring the emerging spoilage risks in dairy production "online", which means saving costs and time for food producing companies.
