The growing global demand for Omega 3 finished products is rapidly depleting limited fish populations. A sustainable, scalable alternative is needed.

Omega oils are fatty acids which are beneficial to human health. This family of oils includes, among others, Omega 3 oils, Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), Alpha Linolenic acid (ALA) and Omega 6 oils Arachidonic acid (ARA).

Omega 3 oils are beneficial to, and deemed essential for, human health; however the human body does not naturally produce Omega oils but must derive them from other food sources for the components needed by the human body e.g. EPA -Y- DHA.

These components must be ingested in useable form and in specific, varying amounts and proportions for the desired wellness or therapeutic effects. The EPA and DHA components that are efficiently usable (or convertible) by the human body are present in the oils derived from the traditional primary source, oily fish and in other marine mammals - all of which derive it from algae.

As human bodies do not naturally produce Omega oils, they must be obtained from other food sources such as wild-catch deep sea fish, other marine animals, algae and vegetables including flaxseed. The human body readily and efficiently converts oils from wild-catch deep sea fish, other marine animals and algae into usable Omega 3 oils EPA and DHA. This is not true of vegetable oils (including flaxseed) whose processing in the human body only produces a relatively meagre yield of Omega 3 oils. Flaxseed oil is currently the Omega 3 oil of choice for vegetarians who choose not to consume marine animal oils, but as with all other plant-sourced Omega 3 oils, it contains only alpha linolenic acid (ALA Omega 3) and no EPA or DHA so it does not bring the wellness/therapeutic benefits of these Omega 3 oils.

Industry standard fish oil contains only 18% EPA and 12% DHA. The company´s Omega 3 EPA oil contains 60% EPA and easily lends itself to high concentration, pharma grade levels of 95% EPA or more. Oil from this UK company´s microalga is one of the few sources of EPA without the presence of DHA, and thus presents a means of maximising the efficacy of EPA, especially if formulated with other fatty acids or nutrients.

The company is keen to work with a food manufacturer to produce Omega 3 oils to the partner´s specifications and assist them in the implementation of the product via commercial agreement with technical assistance.
