Summary:
A research team of Polish university has developed and patented an adaptogenic preparation production technology, based on an extract of Eleutherococcus senticosus and its production methods. The product can be used notably to treat elderly athletes and people suffering from immune defects. License agreements are sought with manufacturers of plant-based products, manufacturers of dietary supplement and pharma-nutrition products, or industrial pharmaceutical companies.
Description:
The research team from the Polish university has developed an adaptogenic preparation production technology, based on an extract of Eleutherococcus senticosus and its production methods and is looking for partners who could introduce innovative technology to the market.

The invention gives a good quality product with an adaptogenic activity, and provides its method production. In the known stage of technology, there are no the Eleutherococcus senticosus preparations, prepared on the basis of, the so called total extract with naringenin. The invention provides a lyophilized powder constituting the so-called total extract, produced with an application of ultrasound-assisted extraction.

The invention is differentiated from the conventional technique and formula, that produce only polar compounds. The advantage of the product is a presence of polar and non-polar constituents that have been extracted from the same plant material and act synergistically. The method of production allow obtaining the total extract, free from the technical solvents. The composition of the preparation was developed experimentally, including five different formulas, based on the demonstration of an optimal adaptogenic activity. The invention does not act genotoxically in the Ames test, in doses recommended by the EU. The preparation, in in vivo studies (Balb/c mice), has not caused hepatotoxicity, in a dose up to 500 mg/kg, no changes in the level of glucose, urine, creatinine, total protein have been observed. The form of preparation can be changed depending on the technological capabilities of the manufacturers and market demand (a convenient form of application by the consumer).

The university is interested in a cooperation in the framework of a license agreement. A licensee would have the authorization to use the technology in return for a fee or a share of royalties. Under the license agreement, partners should commercialize the product and bring it to market by licensing agreement optionally with technical assistance.

Advantages and Innovations:
Market advantage and demand:
- on the Polish and European market of herbal products there are no products with a similar formula and confirmed adaptogenic activity,
- the preparation contains a full profile of active compounds, extracted from plant material, which act synergistically,
- By 2020, a quarter of Europeans will be over the age of 60, which is why adaptogens are thought to become a desirable group of natural products targeted at older people.
Stage of Development:
Available for demonstration
