Un grupo de investigación español del Sistema Nacional de Salud ha desarrollado un método de identificación de células epiteliales circulantes en sangre periférica para discriminar entre pacientes con enfermedad pulmonar obstructiva crónica. El uso de técnicas de biopsia líquida para obtener células epiteliales, combinadas con técnicas inmunológicas para su detección, caracterización y aislamiento, es útil para determinar la gravedad de la enfermedad, así como para su diagnóstico temprano. La tecnología permite realizar una detección más temprana y específica que con los métodos actuales. El grupo de investigación busca socios con el fin de establecer acuerdos de licencia o cooperación técnica y continuar con el desarrollo de la tecnología patentada.

A Spanish research group of the public health system has developed a method of identifying circulating epithelial cells in peripheral blood to discriminate between patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The technology allows an earlier and more specific detection of the pulmonary disease than other current methods.
A license agreement or a technical cooperation agreement for a public or private partnership for the further development of the patented technology is sought.
Description:
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is characterized by progressive airflow limitation and an inflammatory response in lungs.

The Spanish research group has developed a non-invasive, easily reproducible and specific technology of identifying circulating epithelial cells in peripheral blood

The use of liquid biopsy techniques to obtain epithelial cells, combined with immunological techniques for its detection, characterization and isolation, is useful for determining the patient´s severity disease and for the early diagnosis of the disease.

The research group is looking for the following collaboration:
-License agreement: framework of authorizing the interested parts to use the technology.
-Technical cooperation agreement: to collaborate with other research teams, companies or foundations.

- This technology facilitates the personalized monitoring of each patient.

- The main advantage is based on the early and specific detection of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, a major cause of morbidity and the third leading cause of death worldwide.
