Ultra-fast Earth observation telemetry analyser
An SME with offices in Zagreb %26 Luxembourg offers tailor-made software solutions and all round software support for the satellite industry. The offered product is a software satellite data acquisition system for Earth observation missions. The product levers software technologies instead of expensive hardware solutions, being more flexible and price attractive.Industry partners for feedback and further development are sought for joint venture, financial or technical cooperation agreement.
The Croatian company has provided number of satellite and ground, multimedia and mobile solutions to the key players in the industry:
- space associations (e.g. ESA - European Space Agency, DLR - German Aerospace Center, UN - United Nations)
- satellite operators (SES - European Satellite Society)
- VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) vendors (iDirect, Newtec, NDSatCom)
- teleports (RSS - Redu Space Services)

A significant number of satellites are launched to observe the Earth´s surface. They record large amounts of imagery and it needs to get to the ground in order to be useful. An analogue satellite´s signal is received on the antenna, converted to a digital signal and demodulated. Until it is persisted to a file in appropriate form, the digital signal is a subject to a series of operations like frame synchronization, various parsing operations, packet assembly, error detection and correction methods and others specialized data acquisition operations.
This solution is a software-powered satellite data acquisition system, supporting data acquisition process from demodulation to persistence to files at processing rate ranging from 0.5 to 3 Gbps.
The software is compatible with CCSDS (Consultative Committee for Space Data Systems) standard and Copernicus´ Sentinel programs. Support for additional missions is on the roadmap.

The software system can be applicable in three distinct scenarios, as follows:

1. Thick hardware
The satellite ground station is built around one of the current mainstream hardware demodulators. Their prices often surpass 100,000 Euros, and may be licensed "per module". In this scenario, some of the modules can be replaced by this software, so that the software simply reads partially processed input produced by demodulator, performs required downstream data and produces expected higher value output.
Partners which already have operational satellite systems can introduce this solution to improve data acquisition performance.

2. Thin hardware
The satellite ground station is built around an SDR (Software Defined Radio) and our product.
This is where this solution stands out: users get the full flexibility of a software-powered solution at a fraction of the price they currently pay.

3. Manual processing
Aside from real-time data acquisition, the system can provide ad hoc data management and analysis capabilities during ground station verification and validation, satellite construction or if transmission issues appear during operations. The tool works on- or off-site, on a server or a laptop. The system allows operators to query, filter, convert and analyse data once it is acquired, making data management much easier. Ground station operators can identify files in large archive directory somewhere, find the interesting part of the data stream, focus on problematic areas, generate detailed reports about the stream, display raw contents for extreme low-level analysis and other.

This product is developed from the expertise of its engineers acquired while:
- working on projects in the field of acquisition of Earth observation satellite data, including data transfer, processing, error management and detailed reporting
- developing platforms for monitoring and controlling earth station equipment, including instruments used for satellite data acquisition.
