Se trata de un ancla submarina omnidireccional que se utiliza en esquistos, en la costa o en suelos corrosivos. El ancla, versátil y adaptable, tiene la capacidad de sujetarse y ser tensada al mismo tiempo en direcciones contrarias y no se ve afectada por cambios en las mareas. El diseño también puede adaptarse y emplearse como un ancla convencional. El ancla es ligera, resistente a la corrosión y con un mínimo impacto ambiental. Se buscan socios con experiencia en fabricación en el sector marítimo para licenciar, desarrollar conjuntamente, probar y comercializar la tecnología.

A partner with marine manufacturing expertise is sought, to either licence the technology or undertake a joint development and testing exercise, leading to commercialization.
Description:
A micro-SME has acquired a significant marine experience, which was used to develop an innovative omnidirectional anchor, suitable for using on shale, shoreline or weaker cohesive soils. The invented anchor has the ability to commence setting within its own length for accurate positioning, with up to 40 degrees angle of pull. Being versatile and adaptable, the anchor has the ability to hold while being pulled in opposite directions, and will not be impacted by tidal changes. Once set, the anchor has no protruding elements and requires less chain length than comparable systems available on the market. The design can also be adapted for single pull, allowing the device to be used as a conventional anchor; the cycle of pull is fully adjustable.

The technology can be used with navigation buoyage systems, single point moorings, pilot boats, dive support vessels and tugs. The omnidirectional capability would be of significant benefit in areas producing tidal energy, the stress concentration being reduced substantially as the bearing capacity of the soil is increased.

The invented anchor is both lightweight and corrosion resistant, providing a cost-effective solution. Also, the invention has minimal environmental impact, as ground displacement during its use is minimal. In addition, the developed technology can be used with conventional portable equipment.

A prototype has been built and is available for demonstration. Further testing and development is required before entering the marketing phase of the project. A partner with marine manufacturing expertise is required, to either licence the technology or undertake a joint development and testing, ultimately leading to commercialization.
