El ancla tiene una potencia de retención similar a la de las anclas de tipo Bruce/Danforth, pero tiene capacidad de agarre cuando se tira de ella en direcciones opuestas, de forma que no se ve afectada por los cambios en la dirección del viento o de las mareas. El ancla reduce el impacto medioambiental porque el desplazamiento en tierra es mínimo. La tecnología se ha diseñado para embarcaciones de trabajo y de recreo de hasta 30 m de eslora. La capacidad omnidireccional es una importante ventaja en áreas con flujos de mareas, estuarios y aguas costeras. Description:
A micro-SME based in the UK has acquired significant marine experience, which has been used to develop an innovative omnidirectional anchor, suitable for use on hard and soft sand, shale and mud. Current anchor designs are susceptible to dragging each time the direction of pull changes, such as when the tide changes in estuaries and inshore waters. The invented anchor has similar holding power to Bruce/Danforth type anchors, but has the ability to hold while being pulled in opposite directions, and so is not impacted by tidal or wind direction changes.The anchor has the ability to commence setting within its own length providing considerably more accurate positioning than many conventional anchors. Once set, the anchor has no protruding elements so will not be snagged and released by the anchor chain. Also, the invention minimises environmental impact as there is minimal ground displacement during its use.

The technology is currently designed for use with marine craft up to around 30m long, both working and recreational boats. The omnidirectional capability would be of significant benefit in areas of tidal flow, such as estuaries and inshore waters.

The anchor has been developed over several years and has been optimised for both effective anchoring and efficient manufacturing. The current design (see photo) has been made in stainless steel for premium customers, but the anchor can also be manufactured in other material e.g. steel or aluminium. Significantly, no welding is required in the manufacturing process. Current designs range from 4 kilos to 35 kilos, with the ability to scale to larger sizes in the future. The technology received an innovation award at a recent marine exhibition.

A prototype of the final design has been built and initial marine testing has been carried out successfully.
