Walking frame for stair climbing.
Summary:
A Singapore hospital has developed a novel walking frame that is suited for stair climbing and adheres to the guidelines laid down by the Singapore Building and Construction Authority (BCA) for staircase dimensions. The walking frame, after initial height adjustments, facilitates the user to climb up and down the stairs without having to operate any moving parts. It is lightweight and safe and enables greater ease of use.

The hospital is seeks licensing/research partners with SMEs or MNEs.
Description:
While most walking frames are designed for ground level ambulation, this unique walking frame additionally helps during stair climbing. The device can be folded for storage and transportation purposes. Furthermore, as the walking frame does not have any moving parts, this enables ease of use for elderly, injured or weak patients that need walking support.

As the walking frame has been developed using the BCA guidelines, it would aid climbing staircases in most industrial and public buildings fitted with standard staircase dimensions. Furthermore, anti-slip handles and leg stoppers ensure improved safety benefits while climbing.

The device, made of aluminium makes the frame light-weight and easy to use. The walking frame can be adjusted to a user´s height and has intuitive handle positions to facilitate easy change of positions while climbing up or down the stairs.

The hospital is interested in establishing license agreements and research cooperation agreements with partner from the healthcare industry, such as an SME of any size or MNEs to commercialise the technology or undertake further development.
Advantages and Innovations:
Since the walking frame can be used for walking on ground or a staircase, it provides users with a greater freedom of movement. Despite being lightweight, the frame is stable enough to support bodyweight in a safe manner. The frame has also been designed to walk across different terrains ranging from plane to sloping surfaces.

The device has been developed based on clinical research, ensuring the prioritization of patient mobility in and safe and easy manner across different terrains.
