A South Korea based research institute, specialized in developing innovative infrastructure technology is offering a solution for decontamination and remediation of railway ballast.

The proposed technology is ideal for removing railroad ballast that are contaminated with industrial oil, heavy metals, or other pollutants which could prevent water and soil pollution.

Washed ballast could earn the higher quality of track performance.

This apparatus is a combination of (a) a vehicle equipped with a delivery belt, and units that (b) collect contaminated ballasts from the railroad and send them to the delivery belt, (c) spray a liquid that cleanses pollutants off the surface, (d) and finally re-distribute decontaminated ballasts to the railroad.

The institute is looking for industrial partners and public bodies who are envisaged to commercialize the technology through licensing agreements.
