Further development of a concept for personalised nutritional advice for patients and medical doctors
Summary:
A Dutch nutrition and health foundation and developer of a concept for nutritional advice for medical doctors is looking for partners to further develop this technology. The foundation is looking for technical and research cooperation to add vitamins and minerals to the concept, develop e-health applications, incorporate new techniques in blood sample collection and vitamin/mineral analyses. Cooperation on research and efficiency of the use of nutritional concepts is also of interest.
Description:
Micronutrient deficiencies are still common, which may have long-term effects for both the individual and public health. In order to prevent such long-term problems, it is important to diagnose micronutrient deficiencies (e.g. vitamin D) in an early stage, so improved nutrition and/or supplements can be adequately used to obtain and maintain an optimal micronutrient status.

This Dutch nutrition and health foundation developed a concept for a first step in personalized nutritional advice for medical doctors. The concept was developed in a clinical setting. This innovation can be used by doctors to help patients to start eating healthier. It combines lab analysis of vitamin and mineral status of a blood sample with food intake screening of a patient or consumer.

Potential target populations: pregnant women, persons with inadequate diets or unhealthy, sedentary lifestyle, patients recovering from major gastro-intestinal tract surgery, patients recovering from major blood loss, ´amateur´ athletes with higher nutritional demands.

In this concept a medical doctor collects and analyses the blood sample and determines the status of vitamins B6, B12, D and Folic Acid. The patients or consumers food intake pattern is determined by using an online screening tool. Integrating the sample and the intake pattern, a personalised dietary advice can be provided to health professionals and / or directly communicated to consumers or patient allowing them to change their diet. Users of this personalised food concept range from medical patients, to consumers and sport athletes.

The Dutch foundation is looking for partners to implement the concept and / or to develop and integrate the concept in health promotion e.g. through technical and research cooperation for addition of vitamins and minerals to the concept; research on efficiency of use of nutritional concepts and patient empowerment. The foundation has experience in and is open to projects in the framework of Eurostars or Horizon 2020.

The Dutch nutrition and health foundation is also interested in incorporation of new techniques in blood sample collection and vitamin/mineral analyses and is looking for partners that can provide these techniques.

For wider use the foundation is also interested in development of an e-health application of the concept and is looking for an ICT company with experience in the health domain.

The foundation is focussing on partners in: Germany, Spain, Turkey, UK and the Nordic countries but doesn´t limit itself to these regions.

Within the cooperation the Dutch foundation can provide excellent qualified lab facilities, diagnostic support, a validated food intake tool and nutritional sciences.
Advantages and Innovations:
This concept combines the scientific knowledge of a renowned Dutch university with the care setting and excellent lab facilities of a Dutch hospital. Scientists, dietary advisors are actively involved in making the analysis for the client and/or consumer. The concept is registered by the Dutch nutrition and health foundation.
