Description:
A French R-Y-D institution offers synchrotron X-Ray for drug formulation and API characterization.

Pharmaceutical and biotechnologies companies can use synchrotron techniques to help develop new products at all stages of research, from drug design and formulation to pre-clinical phases.

1. Drug Design
· Rapid data collection, even from very small crystals (5 µm) and to a higher resolution than conventional X-ray sources;
· 3D structure determination of proteins whether they are crystals or semi-crystalline using the powerful and fully automated protein crystallography beamlines.

2. Formulation
· Phase diagrams of complex formulation by analysing their rheological properties;
· Understanding of the physico-chemical properties of a drug with excipients;
· Evaluation of the stability, solubility and crystallinity of a new drug for the prototyping of formulations;
· High resolution quantitative and qualitative composition of a whole formulation even at ultra-diluted concentration;
· Determination of polymorphism and pseudo-polymorphism of molecule within a whole formulation.

Examples:
- Characterisation of pharmaceutical active ingredients and formulas in situ and their behaviour in different conditions;
- Studying drug delivery vectors such as nano-holders and phospholipid/micellular structures;
- Resolving the crystal structures of drug formulations.

The partners sought can be from the Pharmaceutical or Biotechnologies sectors which make wide use of synchrotron X-rays for drug development -Y- health care technologies such as implants.

The French institution will work with the partner to evaluate the technology and application within their field. Dependent upon need and technology readiness levels, they will commission a commercial agreement with technical assistance or technical cooperation agreement to work on solutions.

Joint further research and development can be also considered.
