El objetivo del laboratorio es apoyar la investigación en las áreas de geología, arqueología y patrimonio, además de ofrecer servicios en los campos de farmacia, construcción, ingeniería civil y nanomateriales. La principal ventaja de su unidad de arqueometría es la aplicación combinada de una amplia selección de técnicas analíticas para la caracterización integral de muestras sólidas. El centro busca socios académicos e industriales con el fin de establecer acuerdos de cooperación técnica, investigación y servicio.

A Spanish scientific -Y- technical infrastructure offers chemical, vibrational and mineralogical analyses as well as thermal studies with techniques related with microscopy, spectroscopy and macroscopy. The laboratory aims to support research in the areas of geology, archeology and heritage, and furthermore, it provides services in the fields of pharmacy, construction, civil engineering and nanomaterials. The centre is interested in technical and research cooperation, as well as service agreement
Description:
The Spanish research centre, belongs to the national network of Unique Scientific -Y- Technical Infrastructures (ICTS). It is open to scientific and technological use by the international scientific and technological community. Its research activities are mainly focus on human evolution, and include collaborative projects at excavations and deposits worldwide.

The centre has developed a system of quality management based on ISO 9001 standards and, in the case of testing laboratories, also on the ISO / IEC 17025 standards, as a tool for creating value for the organization and for users of the infrastructure.

The archaeometry unit has various analytical techniques for characterization of solids, such as: i) X-ray Powder Diffraction, ii) X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometry, iii) Raman spectroscopy, iv) Infrared spectroscopy, v) thermal analysis and vi) microscopy.

This area consists of two laboratories: i) lab X-ray spectrometry and ii) laboratory Raman and infrared spectroscopy.

The main applications of these laboratories are:
-Identification and semi-quantitative determination of the different crystalline phases in geological samples (rocks, minerals, soils, sediments), archaeological (lithic industry, pigments, teeth, ceramics) and industrial (aggregate, ornamental stone, cement, paint, ash, ceramic)
-Separation of the fine clay fractions and determination of clay mineralogy in soils, sediments, rocks, cores, etc.
-X-ray fluorescence analysis of major elements and trace elements in geological samples, including loss on ignition
-Semi-quantitative analysis of major and trace elements in solid samples
-Study of thermal decomposition and phase transitions of inorganic compounds in different atmospheres
-Identification of pigments and binders in paintings.

The Spanish public institution is searching for researchers, universities, research centers and companies interested in using their facilities as well as to establish agreements and research projects with them.
