It has developed and patented a membrane reactor that can extract efficiently high purity magnesium hydroxide from industrial waste streams. Industrial partners are sought for a technical cooperation agreement or a joint venture.
Description:
The group of Italian researchers, specialized in chemical engineering, who has founded the company has developed expertise in all aspects of the integrated cycle: Desalination, Salt production, Treatment of waste streams with recovery of valuable material and Generation of electricity from salinity gradients.
Over the past 10 years, the group has been developing networks and working with them in the implementation of several elements that contribute to the integrated cycle. Working in large, highly innovative and high-risk international research projects (mostly EU-funded projects, in which the team members have acted as partners or even as project-coordinator) the group started implementing the vision, bringing closer together companies that work in desalination, in salinity gradient power and in salt production.
The group developed technology for the recovery of Magnesium from exhausted brines and they recently patented the design of a membrane reactor that can extract efficiently high purity magnesium hydroxide from bitterns by using a really low-cost reactant thus resulting into a significant competitive advantage.
The spin-off company is primarily focused on using this technology.

Magnesium is classified by the EC as one of the 20 Critical Raw Materials. "Critical" means that the risks of supply shortage and its impact on the economy are higher compared with most of the other raw materials. Less than 6% of the world magnesium supply originates from Europe, as the bulk of the global production comes from mining in China and Russia. The technology and approach developed by this company can reverse this trend.
The company is looking to work with users of Magnesium hydroxide in order to adapt the characteristics of their product to users´ requirements with a technical cooperation agreement
The company is also looking to work with salt-pond and desalination plant owners for joint development of projects (a joint venture agreement) where the integrated cycle is implemented.

- With the patented membrane reactor the salt production in industrial salt-ponds increases by 20 to 30% by using the waste stream from seawater desalination.

- the waste of the magnesium extraction process is a great fuel for the salinity gradient power production system, as the company has demonstrated in a 1kW prototype in a salt production facility.
