Description:
The institute has a strong background in the development of intelligent sensor systems, analysis of large amounts of data as well as new approaches for distributed control systems. Tailored to current industrial needs and future challenges, the researchers work on adaptive and robust technological solutions in a broad range of applications such as mobility and industrial automation.

The solutions allow diverse quantities of data used within adaptive systems to be processed efficiently and through self-learning and to be interpreted. On this basis, optimal strategies for process control can be derived. The applied methods are based on cutting-edge statistical analysis techniques, such as in data processing in distributed systems. In addition to reliable adaptive controls, strategies for predictive maintenance of plants or for quality management of automation systems emerge.

Specifically, a research group of data scientists and engineers has developed software for condition monitoring and predictive maintenance for different equipment in national as well as international research projects especially in the field of steel supply.

Usually the wear progress of a facility at hand is unknown. Therefore, the operator carries out periodical maintenance tasks to ensure a proper condition of the facility.

This strategy has two main disadvantages.
1. Even though maintenance tasks were carried out, the maintained facility sometimes breaks down without any notable warning.
2. It is not known if the maintenance schedule can be loosened to reduce the maintenance cost while ensuring the same equipment availability.

Solution: The institute offers software development services as well as research and development services to address these two disadvantages.

This includes:
· definition of a measurement concept to gather the data which is necessary to identify early signs of an equipment breakdown
· development and implementation of self-learning algorithms to measure and predict the wear of each facility
· standalone software for predictive maintenance of the analysed facilities or support during the integration of the developed algorithms into existing data analytic frameworks
· training of the employees regarding the use of the software, the retraining of the algorithms or the development of own algorithms and the use of artificial intelligence

These steps serve a solid foundation to prevent unplanned downtime while cutting the maintenance cost of our partner. Therefore, partners from the field of steel supply are sought who are willing to change their maintenance strategy from preventive to condition-based maintenance.

In previous projects the effectiveness of the approach and developed solutions to identify and predict the wear of steel-mill drives, steel-mill engines and slitting line blades have been approved.

The aim is it to develop a tailored solution which satisfies the needs of the partner and helps to meet the goals regarding the equipment availability while cutting the maintenance cost.

Therefore, cooperation with partners from steel industry is envisaged in terms of commercial agreements and/or license agreements. Furthermore, agreements for research cooperation (e.g. eu funded projects) are conceivable.

Type and Role of Partner Sought:
The sought partner should be from the field of steel supply who aim to establish a condition-based maintenance for their facilities.

The partner should be able to collect and provide data regarding the production process, the operational state of the equipment and the energy flows of the equipment.

If necessary, the partner should be able to install additional sensors such as accelerometers and add their signals to the data collection.

Furthermore, the partner should be able to provide meta information regarding the production process and the equipment such as engineering drawings or P-Y-I-Flowcharts.

Research cooperation agreement:
The respective solution is offered to interested parties from steel industry to pool R-Y-D capacities in funded projects and bilateral contracts.

License Agreement:
The institute offers the license for the respective solution and is looking for licensees.

Commercial Agreement with technical assistance:
The institute offers the transfer of the solution for the condition monitoring and predictive maintenance of facilities in steel factories.
