A Dutch technology and development company developed a wave energy converter that is fit for the mild wave climate of the North Sea. Tests show that the efficiency is about 1,5 times better than from other wave energy converters, due to its light weight and patented blade system. The system is lab and open water tested.

The company is looking for investors to build and test a full scale grid connected prototype within the frame of a financial or a technical cooperation agreement.
Description:
The company was founded in 2012 with the goal to develop its unique wave energy converter technology. It has signed agreements with several suppliers and shareholders that will produce and co-finance the project. Activities encompass research, development, testing, scaling and operation of its product, now in Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 4-5; open sea trials. The company has worked the last 2 years to eliminate engineering difficulties and operational roadblocks while improving performance and survivability, resulting in an easy to construct, install, maintain and operate product. This year prestigious engineering companies and research institutes have joined its consortium as the great potential becomes more and more visible.

The technology works as follows:
A floater with blades is variably connected to the sea floor and when a wave comes in it gets resisted by the blades so that the unit moves away from its anchor. This work stroke is captured inside the climate controlled floater by a conventional Power Take Off (PTO) system with flywheels and generators which can also act as motors when external energy is being stored in tanks inside the floater. When the wave recedes, it takes the floater and blades back to the starting position and the work stroke can be repeated. Motor management monitors energy delivery, storage and freewheel mode as well as normal, safety and storm mode, according to circumstances and need.

The company is looking for an investment firm or maritime industrial partner, to provide technical and financial support in order to finance the next step in the development which is de building and testing of a full schale grid connected prototype.
Advantages and Innovations:
Waves are hard to catch, especially in a mild wave climate like the North Sea. Using advanced composite technology, little energy is wasted to get the machine in motion so that small and irregular waves can also be harnessed through a patented blade system. Estimated power to weight ratio ca. 5x higher than state of the art Wave Energy Converter (WEC) technologies, partly due to utilisation of the up and down motion as well as the back and forth motion of waves.

- Fatigue, tension, slamming, stress, etc, less but expected shell life greater than ships.
- No underwater valves, pipes, technical parts, etc; installation and maintenance from sea surface.
