Shaving cream with hemostatic properties
Summary:
A Singapore research institute has developed a shaving cream with the ability to control bleeding that may occur due to possible nicks and cuts while shaving.

The shaving cream, with the presence of hemostatic agents with added moisturizing and anti-microbial properties is being offered for licensing.

The R-Y-D institute is keen to establish a licensing agreement for its grooming product with SMEs of all sizes and MNEs.
Description:
The shaving cream developed by the Singapore research institute contains an an aqueous base with bleeding control properties that helps in controlling bleeding that occurs due to possible nicks and cuts during shaving.

The hemostatic properties are achieved through a proprietary method incorporated during the production process of the cream.

The cream also provides value-added properties, such as anti-microbial properties commonly used in cosmetics, and moisturizing functionalities due to the presence of virgin coconut oil. The shaving cream, formulated using cosmetic grade safe ingredients, is intended for use primarily as a cosmetic grooming product with other possible uses as mild hemostatic wound healing cream and facial wash for bleeding acne due to its value-added properties.

The research institute seeks licensing partnerships with MNEs or SMEs of all sizes where the partner could license the technology to commercialise it to a product for introduction to its customers.
Advantages and Innovations:
The institute has conducted various in-vitro studies and established that bleeding due to nicks and cuts can be reduced to nearly 30% when the hemostatic properties are incorporated in the shaving cream formulation.

The product also reduces the need for additional after-shave lotions and creams that are used to treat and disinfect possible injuries during shaving. The product is also safe to use as it is formulated using cosmetic-grade ingredients.

While the technology is proposed as a cosmetic product for men´s grooming, other products which may be developed from this technology would include (but not limited to):

- Women´s shaving cream (e.g. for legs, etc.)
- Facial wash for bleeding acne since it has anti-microbial and moisturising properties
- Mild hemostatic wound healing cream, for minor cuts and scrapes often experienced by children
