El elastómero magnetorreológico, una mezcla de partículas magnéticas y sustancias elásticas (por ejemplo, caucho natural o sintético), es un material inteligente controlado por un campo magnético externo generado desde una corriente inducida. Este material es suave y flexible cuando no se aplica un campo magnético, pero cambia su estructura radicalmente y se vuelve rígido cuando se aplica el campo magnético. El nivel de rigidez varía en función de los tipos de partículas magnéticas y sustancias elásticas. Se trata del primer actuador háptico que puede aplicarse en dispositivos inteligentes. The Korean SME developed Haptic Solution technology, originated from a smart material called Magneto-Rheological Elastomer(MRE), the technology brings brand-new tactile sensations such as rhythmical tapping, rubbing and many more to the mobile and entertainment devices.

Magneto-Rheological Elastomer(MRE), a mixture of magnetic particles and elastic substances (e.g. natural or synthetic rubber), is one of the smart materials controlled by an external magnetic field generated from the induced current. It is soft and flexible when there is no magnetic field applied, but it dramatically changes its structure and brings stiffness as a magnetic field is applied. The level of stiffness varies depending on the types of magnetic particles and elastic substances.

The technology is an innovative haptic solution based on Magneto-Rheological Elastomer(MRE). It is a patented technology which controls the activity of MRE in various structures by the magnetic field generated from the induced current, thus creates brand new tactile sensations. The key of this technology lies in the unique formulation of MRE, its structure and the current control.

The innovative haptic actuator is the world´s first new concept parts that can be applied to various smart devices.
