Description:
A UK product design and development company has developed an innovative frictionless hydraulic braking system with kinetic energy recovery. It is derived from earlier invention proprietary to the company for zero displacement of bi-directional rotary damper systems.

The system can be installed in-board on the transmission casing and integrated to the output drive shafts of cars and all commercial and mass transportation vehicles.

The new frictionless braking system is entirely hydraulic mechanical and allows for electronic enhancements to be incorporated if desired. It does away with brake pads, calipers, discs, shoes, drums and retarders. Braking is achieved by controlling the oil flow in the bi-directional rotary damper system, and is actuated through a conventional master cylinder set-up.

The company is looking for engineering and equipment manufacture companies who want to adopt the mechanism for improvement of their existing braking products, mostly from the automotive industry. The company offers technical cooperation for the final stage of the development or is ready to license out to companies wanting to commercialize the product independently.
Advantages and Innovations:
- The new braking system does not require the use of hydraulic calipers, pads and discs.

- It is environmentally friendly as it is a non-sacrificial system, therefore does not produce dust participates.

- The heat produced as a by-product upon braking can be used directly for climate control or refrigeration (for transport carrying chilled or frozen foodstuff) and can be converted into electricity via thermos-electric batteries.

- Water does not affect braking efficiency.

- System installation can be in-board thus reducing unsprung mass and improving vehicle steering response and road holding.
