Un investigador del departamento de ingeniería civil de una universidad turca especializado en materiales para la construcción ha desarrollado el prototipo de un aglutinante de geopolímero a partir de polvo residual de ladrillos de arcilla. El aglutinante se obtiene mezclando materias primas residuales con soluciones alcalinas en una concentración óptima. El aglutinante ha demostrado una durabilidad mayor y un rendimiento mecánico comparable al de los aglutinantes cementosos. La tecnología ha sido patentada en Turquía. El investigador busca socios con el fin de establecer acuerdos de licencia para transferir el know-how y acuerdos de cooperación técnica para continuar con el desarrollo del prototipo y obtener un aglutinante de geopolímero comercialmente viable.

Summary:
A researcher who is specialized in construction materials from a reputable university in Turkey has invented and prototyped a geopolymer binder from waste clay brick powder.

The technology has been patented at national stage and technical cooperation is sought in order to further develop the prototype to obtain a commercially viable geopolymer binder. First, a licensing agreement is sought to transfer the know how followed by technical cooperation to develop and finalise the product.
Description:
A researcher from civil engineering department of a reputable university in Turkey, has invented a geopolymer binder obtained by using waste brick powder which is obtained as residue from construction sites.

Waste clay brick powder are used to develop geopolymer binder by mixing the waste raw materials with alkali solutions at optimum concentration. The effects of alkali activator concentration, water/binder ratio and curing conditions on the strength of geopolymer binders are tested and a binder which can be used instead of cement is developed.

In order to investigate the effect of alkali activator concentration and curing condition, micro structural characteristics of the geopolymers were analyzed. Trial geopolymer concrete mixtures were prepared and their strengths were determined.

The mechanical, water transport properties and durability performance of a number of concrete mixtures were compared with equivalent strength conventional concrete mixtures. Finally, prototype reinforced concrete beams from selected concrete mixtures were produced and subjected to center-point flexural loading test.

All the results were convenient and showed superior durability performance and comparable mechanical performance compared to cementitious binders.

At this stage current invention needs industrial partners manufacturing construction materials to improve the current formulation of geoplymer binder in order to obtain a commercial product under technical cooperation as well as licensing agreement is sought to transfer the current know-how.

Some advantages of this invention are listed below;

-Manufacturers of construction materials having trouble with non-recyclable waste in the form of powder from tiles and bricks are potential beneficiaries of this technology.
-Cement is weak against acid attack and high temperature.Moreover, it is a weak insulator. However, geopolymer binders are more resistant to acid attack and high temperature.
-Construction sector needs green solutions with affordable price. The commercial form of this geopolimer powder is an economic alternative to cement since it is obtained from waste brick powder.

Role of Partner: Manufacturers of construction materials are expected to first license this technology under a licensing agreement and then this partner will also work in collaboration with the inventor under technical cooperation agreement to develop and finalize the formulation of a commercial geopolymer binder. It is compulsory that the partner provide laboratory and research facilities.
