Un centro de investigación francés ha desarrollado y patentado un dispositivo de detección de fugas que permite identificar de forma rápida fugas de líquido ionizado en un entorno gracias a un cortocircuito en una estructura de conducto de almacenamiento y transporte de líquidos. Este dispositivo puede emplearse en estructuras nuevas o existentes, como tuberías, tubos o equipos de almacenamiento, con una temperatura de operación máxima de 350º C, y en procesos y plantas industriales (plantas químicas, plantas desaladoras, centrales nucleares, etc.). Se buscan diseñadores y fabricantes de válvulas y accesorios con el fin de establecer acuerdos de licencia, desarrollo conjunto y know-how.

Summary:
A French research center has developed and patented a leak detection device enabling to quickly identify a ionized fluid leak in an environment; thanks to a short circuit in a fluid transport or storage conduit structure. This can be used in new or existing structures such as pipes, pipelines or storage equipment. Valves and fittings designers and manufacturers are sought for license agreement, or joint development with associated know-how.
Description:
The detection principle of a leak is based on the loss of electrical isolation between ionized liquid (e.g sodium) and electrically conductive layer of the pipe. During a leak, the ionized liquid flows through a first electrically insulating layer and will enable to realize a contact between the pipe and the electrically conductive layer. The electrical properties of the liquid will allow closing the detection circuit and an alarm signal will be generated.

The scope of that innovation of the French research center covers:
- A fluid leak detection system
- A transport pipe using a fluid leak detection system
- A pipe coating process
- A monitoring process to analyze the operating status of a fluid leak detection system.
That device enables to identify quickly a leak of many liquid substances which are functionally electrical (e.g. sodium, ionized liquid water...).
This solution can be used in new or existing structures such as pipes, pipelines or storage equipment (storage tanks/vessels) with a maximum operating temperature at 350°C; in industrial processes and plants (chemical plant, desalinization plant, nuclear power plant...).

Industrial pipes and fittings designers & manufacturers are sought, as well as industries with fluid transport / storage conduit structure issues and willing to develop their own solution for fluid leak detection. Several kinds of partnerships are considered with the French research center: license agreement, technical or research agreement for a joined development and associated know-how.

- Cost of the solution: the purchase and installation of this solution are between 18% and 40% cheaper than for a pearl leak detector.
