Description:
The innovative SME has in-depth experience in the R-Y-D of novel products and systems, including hardware, firmware and software, in the field of microwave and sensor technology and wireless communication. It also has long-term experience in successful international projects.

The soil system is fundamental to the growth of all crops and water is one of the most important components of plant growth. Moisture in the soil determines crop growth and agricultural production quality. It does so through several routes: adequate soil moisture provides a buffer and ensures water availability to plants even in the absence of rainfall; soil moisture is essential to mobilise transport of nutrients to and through the plants; and adequate soil moisture improves soil chemical processes and aids the availability in particular of the macro-nutrient, nitrogen.
The challenge is not only to increase the availability of water to the land but also to retain the moisture within the soil. Increasing the organic content of the soil further improves this. Cultivation practices can also improve the retention of soil moisture in the soil: for instance, mulching (to avoid evaporation from the soil surface) or deep ploughing (moving moisture to deeper layers), though the appropriateness of such practices are location-specific and monitoring is essential.

Any object, heated to a given temperature, radiates electromagnetic energy. The energy, radiated by the soil at a known temperature, correlates with the humidity of the soil.

The innovative radiometer developed by the Bulgarian SME, a dedicated receiver, detects this power and provides information for the soil humidity. The measurement is performed by comparing the received power against a power source with a known characteristics. The radiometer works in the L-band. The tool consists of an antenna, noise amplifier, and a data processing unit. The user interface allows manual and automatic data input and acquisition.

The company seeks commercial agreements with companies involved in the agrofood sector (monitoring of the humidity of the soil), companies related to the precision instrumentation development, interested in the implementation of this invention.
