Una universidad alemana ha desarrollado un drenaje con longitud y potencia variable que mejora considerablemente y facilita la eliminación de fluidos en cavidades corporales. El drenaje consiste en dos tubos concéntricos que se mueven uno contra el otro. Los tubos pueden ser rígidos o flexibles y preformarse en numerosas variantes. El tubo externo está perforado y los orificios se abren o cierran de forma selectiva moviendo el tubo interno. Esto permite al operario ajustar la longitud y potencia del drenaje en función de las condiciones anatómicas y del curso del tratamiento. La universidad busca socios industriales con el fin de establecer acuerdos de licencia y cooperación técnica.

Description:
Drainages serve the removal of fluids from body cavities by transluminal or percutaneous access. The size of the fluid-filled cavity can change during treatment, and consequently the length of the drainage needs to be adjusted. Current commercially available drainages have a predetermined geometry and length, or must be perforated and cut to the required length prior to use.

A German university invented a drainage that increases the variability of drainage geometry and power. The drainage consists of two concentric tubes, which can be shifted against each other. According to requirements the tubes can be rigid or flexible and preshaped in a broad range of variants. The outer tube is perforated and the particular holes can be selectively closed or opened by shifting the inner tube. Thereby, the operator is able to adjust the length and power of the drainage according to the anatomic conditions and the course of the treatment.

The university offers a license agreement as well as technical cooperation agreements to companies that are interested in further developing the existing prototype. This technology offer addresses companies that produce medical equipment.
Advantages and Innovations:
This invention has significant advantages as compared to current commercially available drainage systems with regard to the variation range and capabilities (variable length and power of the drainage; optimal removal of fluids at each time-point of treatment). In addition to that the user does not need to provide several instruments, only one instrument is needed.
