Una start-up española ha desarrollado un nuevo dron resistente equipado con una tecnología de nebulización propia destinado a operaciones de lucha contra incendios y agrícolas. Estas operaciones presentan grandes retos a los drones, principalmente debido a la gran cantidad de líquidos que deben transportar. Este dron es capaz de transportar más de 300 litros e incorpora una tecnología de nebulización patentada basada en un sistema magnético exclusivo que controla la nebulización de agua, regulando los diferentes niveles de intensidad y los cambios en el tamaño de las gotas. El dron está equipado con cámaras termográficas y sistemas de navegación que permiten realizar operaciones por la noche. Existen dos versiones del dron para lucha contra incendios: una versión urbana con una capacidad de 150 litros de agua o retardante de llama para un área de 300 m2 y una segunda versión con una capacidad de 600 litros para un área de 1.000 m2. La versión para agricultura está especialmente indicada para control de plagas. La empresa busca socios con el fin de establecer acuerdos financieros.

Description:
It is a fact that drones and related technologies have gained importance and are used for a wide range of tasks. There are sectors such as firefighting and agricultural operations (mainly pesticide spraying) that present big challenges to drones, mainly because of the big amount of liquid that the flying devices have to carry.
Nevertheless, since drones would be very useful for the mentioned sectors, the Spanish start-up started in 2015 the development of a heavy-duty drone capable of carrying more than 300 litres that incorporates a patented nebulization technology based on an exclusive magnetic system to control the nebulization of water, regulating the different intensity levels and changes in droplet size.

The drone presents the following features:
-The nebulization technology assists in cooling the drone by mist evaporation, radiation blockage and oxygen removal. Also it can direct a flow of nebulized water and high speed air to the site of fire, which makes them more efficient in comparison to other fire extinction methods.

-It is equipped with thermographic cameras and navigation systems that allow for night operations. This system sends real time data from the site of the fire, providing continuous information on critical aspects such as terrain conditions, localization, atmospheric conditions and fire intensity. The collected data can be utilized for real time decision making, facilitating the coordination of emergency teams in the zone, evacuation procedures and other required actions.

-There are two versions of the firefighting drone: one urban version that can be loaded with 150 liters of water or fire retardant, covering an area of 300 meters squared. Also a country version that can be loaded with 600 litres of water or fire retardant, covering up to 1.000 meters squared of area.

-The agriculture version is specially suitable for pest control in farming crops. It utilizes multiple features including the water nebulization technology to make the fumigation process more efficient and operation cheaper. It achieves high precision and control on pesticide spraying by using programmed routes with waypoints, and operation at low altitudes.

This technological project has received funding from the European Union (SME Instrument under Horizon 2020 programme).

The company has already manufactured several prototypes and has started the flight stability tests in 2019. In order to start manufacturing and commercializing the first units, the company is looking for technological investors interested in reaching financial agreements.
Advantages and Innovations:
-Currently there are not in the market any other heavy duty drones suitable to be used for firefighting operations.

-Night time aerial firefighting operations are prohibited due to safety concerns. As a result, fires grow and cause a higher degree of damage at night. On the other hand, this technology can be used at night thank to its thermal cameras so it can helps to prevent the spreading of wildfires at night.
