Institutos de investigación españoles han desarrollado un método para fabricar películas cerámicas inorgánicas de bajo coste sin aditivos inflamables. Estas películas tienen un espesor regulable que varía entre 50 y 2000 micras y están indicadas para electrodos de estado sólido en baterías de Li-ion recargables. El método también puede emplearse para fabricar otro tipo de estructuras, como tubos. Se buscan socios de la industria de baterías de Li-ion con el fin de establecer acuerdos de licencia.

Summary:

Spanish research institutions have developed a promised method for manufacturing low-cost inorganic ceramic films without any flammable additive. The films have adjustable thickness between 50 to 2000 microns being very suitable for solid-stated electrodes in rechargeable Lithium-Ion- batteries.

Industrial partners from Ion-Lithium batteries industry are being sought to collaborate through a patent licence agreement.
Description:
Lithium-Ion batteries are currently the most advanced technology for commercial rechargeable batteries. However, the increase of energy demand from new electronics portable equipment, especially in sectors related to the electric mobility, makes necessary further development particularly focused on the improvement of their energy storage capacity.
The method has been developed to manufacture ceramic films but can also be used to any other kind of structure, such as tubes. The approach makes achievable inorganic ceramic structures containing only active material and not any flammable additive component or polymeric agglomerate. Moreover, different kind of material for anodes, but also cathodes can be made by using the method. Furthermore, the by-this-method-developed- electrodes show higher energy capacity and lower weight than commercial ones. This made them very suitable for application where the weight is a crucial point.
Advantages and Innovations:
- Low cost method to be easily implemented on the electrode fabrication process of current commercial Li-Ion batteries.
- The batteries developed under this approach shows higher energy storage capacity and lower weight than commercial ones.
- The electrodes do not suffer degradation by high temperatures and do not produce gases.
- The approach is suitable to fabricate several anodes, but also cathodes only containing the active material, without the need of any flammable additive or agglomerate components.
- The method permits the use of liquids and solid electrolytes with high boiling temperature.
