Una pyme austríaca ha desarrollado un elevador lateral hidráulico (dispositivo de manejo de contenedores y chasis) con peso y costes reducidos. Este elevador permite cargar y descargar cualquier unidad de carga estandarizada (ISO 668 y EN 284), incluso contenedores de líquidos, desde/a camiones, vagones de ferrocarril y el suelo. La reducción del peso se consigue gracias a un diseño sencillo y al nuevo sistema de transferencia de cargas. El sistema permite reducir el tiempo de inactividad. Se buscan socios con el fin de establecer acuerdos de licencia, joint venture, cooperación técnica, fabricación y comercialización con asistencia técnica.

An Austrian SME developed a hydraulic side lifter (container handling device and chassis) with significantly lower costs and reduced weight. Higher payloads can be carried. It enables the rapid (un)loading of all standardized loading units (even containers with liquids) from/to truck, rail car and ground. Downtimes are reduced. Partners are sought for license agreements/joint ventures, technical cooperation, commercial agreement with technical assistance and manufacturing agreement.
Description:
In the goods traffic business carriers/forwarders constantly endeavor to optimize their supply chain to remain profitable and competitive. One crucial point for road transport carriers (especially for short hauls) is when the truck has to wait until the goods are unloaded by the client. This causes unnecessary idle time and reduces profitability.
Side lifter technologies installed on the truck enable the placement of the loading unit (container) at the clients site i.e. on the ground, where it can be used as a mobile storage. Hence truck downtimes are significantly reduced. All conventional side lifter technologies make use of heavy loader cranes. These are expensive, reduce payloads and are not applicable for all standardized loading units (especially not for tank containers with liquids).

The Upper Austrian SME developed a hydraulic side lifter technology (container handling device together with chassis) with significantly lower costs and reduced weight and which enables the rapid loading and unloading of all ISO 668 (container) and EN 284 (swap bodies) standardized loading units.

The reduced weight of the container handling device is made possible thanks to its simple design and innovative load transfer. It consists of two hydraulic cylinders which are jointed like two legs of a triangle and are held in position via a wire anchoring. The two legs of the load triangle transfer the weight ideally into the lightweight construction. The loading unit can be lifted, lowered and moved laterally. The weight of the container is supported by the device during the entire transfer procedure. This allows for the placement at any level between the ground and the transport trailer.
The semi-trailer (chassis) is designed as a modern lightweight construction and is made specially for the requirements of the side lifters´ technology. The load distribution on the chassis is always optimised. The handling device is mounted slidably on the semi-trailer and can be positioned as required. So, the container can always be positioned centrally on the chassis.

The side lifter lifts 20 ft, 30 ft and 40 ft container in standard, high cube or flat design. It is suitable for all standardized storage goods especially in combined freight transport (road, rail). It is the only side lifter technology at present, which is able to load and unload (tank) containers with liquids.
A side lifter specially designed for swap bodies is available for transportation of cargo e.g. in chemical industry. A special version of the handling device for tilting the container during the transfer procedure is offered for the transport of building materials (sand, gravel), food, plastics, ores etc.

Advantages and Innovations:
Main advantages of the innovative side lifter technology:
- Significantly lower manufacturing costs compared to equivalent types of cranes (cost saving of about 30% regarding side lifter)
- Reduced weight (net weight of side lifter is reduced by 6-7 tons): more payload can be carried; applicable for long distance haulage because the pay load does not have to be reduced.
- Widespread application: all ISO 668 (container) and EN 284 (swap bodies) standardized loading units can be handled (up to 35 tons per loading unit).
- Only side lifter technology at present, which is able to handle (tank) containers with liquids.
- Easily adapted to clients´ requirements
- Low maintenance
- The chassis can be disassembled into 2 parts => the disassembled side lifter (chassis and handling device) fits into one 40 ft container.

Flexible, independent and efficient container handling:
- Maximum flexibility - the container can be loaded and unloaded at different levels: from/to other trucks or rail car or the ground. The container handling is completely independent of infrastructure at the client´s site; hence the containers can be placed anytime anywhere, which enables the truck driver to avoid rush hours on the road.
- Containers can be used as mobile warehouses.
- Reduced time and effort due to easy loading/unloading (handling time: 6-7 minutes)
- Fewer truck downtimes mean more rounds and more effective use in short haul traffic.
