Summary:
A small German SME has developed a patented titanium tendon fixation plate, mainly for open shoulder surgeries. This is currently used for veterinary applications, but with the newly granted patent, the company plans to enter the human medicine sector. Therefore they are looking for a company out of the medical technical sector who would like to either acquire the patent or get a license agreement. The CE mark approval and requirements of the Medical Device Directive must be on their side.
Description:
The German company was established out of a metal processing company with deep know-how in high-precision CNC processing, CAD design services and engineering. Thus, the company´s strengths lie in precise and high quality metal production, which gives the company a high reliability with a view to the quality level. Within a national funding program, an innovative tendon fixation technology has been developed for the application in surgeries.
This tendon fixation plate is applicable generally to all body tendons and ligament fractures. Medical technical manufacturing companies are of interest. Either with already established similar products or companies who want to widen their product portfolio into surgical instruments. The desired cooperation forms are license agreement or patent transfer agreement. The CE mark approval and requirements of the Medical Device Directive must be on their side.
Advantages and Innovations:
Instead of stitching together the tendon parts of the fracture on the bone using anchor and wire technology - as the state of the art does - this implant uses contact pressure for an even fixation of the tendon to the bone for more effective healing.
Across a round deformable plate around 25 spikes are placed in order to fix the tendon to a depth of approximately 0,1mm. The curved shape allows an ideal modeling to the bone form. The plate is safely fixed to the bone through three anchors with barbs on the inner sides. An additional stabilizing bolt beside the plate offers maximal stabilization. With these precautions, it is ensured that the tissue stays in place. A collagen patch, which often is used additionally, can easily be placed under the implant.
Using the special mounting tool with a bayonet catch, the plate can easily and quickly be mounted. Also the loosening of the device after the therapeutic measures is designed to keep it easy and quick.
Compared to seaming techniques commonly used until now, this implant reduces the working steps within the surgery. Avoiding the seaming steps, also the surgery time and overall costs are lowered significantly.
