The SME is looking for a travel software partner in Europe with an API ready for integration to smart locks digital keys.

The UK company based in London has developed an Application Programming Interface (API) which interfaces to smart locks, Channel Managers, and Property Management Systems software, to enable a full automatic smart phone self check-in with digital keys.

Problems and needs:
Problem #1 : Out of hours access is unsecure and costly: Securing a business (hotel, office, shop, lab etc.) when there is no employee present can be inconvenient and costly. In particular, smaller hotels and B-Y-Bs can suffer from out-of-hours arrival times as it requires a 24/7 reception or an arranged meet up. For many small hotel operators, the cost to install electronic keycard systems is too high (ranging from -Y-euro;350 to -Y-euro;5800 per door) and too disruptive and thus they are forced to continue with antiquated systems.
Problem #2 : Outdated technology leads to system failures: Hotels and guesthouses frequently use magnetic stripe technology for locks. The technology is outdated and has been continually proven to fail causing lockouts. The magnetic stripe technology, commonly used in credit cards, has caused reliability concernsas hackers have demonstrated flaws in over 4 million keycard locks installed in hotels across the globe.
Problem #3 : Expensive system installation: Wi-Fi or wired systems are expensive to install into hotels and offices ranging from -Y-euro;900 to -Y-euro;7000 per door depending on volume, company, set-up and environment of the building. Wi-Fi systems are also vulnerable to hacking and security issues.
Problem #4 : Expensive lock replacements: Manual locks result in additional costs to pay locksmiths (approximately -Y-euro;100) to replace the locks when a key is lost or not returned.

Proposed solution:
The innovative solution allows access control and unlocking system that can be integrated with the existing lock. A smartlock is defined as an electronic lock which utilises a smart device to control access rights, and/or to be used as a time-sensitive key. The smartlock can be retrofitted with an existing lock or manufactured according to precise technical specifications. The company´s smartlock is downloaded from the cloud to a smartphone or computer and can grant access to any holder for any date and time combination from hours, days, months or permanently. The digital key access can be managed using the app on any smartphone. The SME is delivering a Software Development Kit (SDK) targeting hotels and short-term rental accommodation to deliver flawless self check-in and web check-in with no need for guest/staff interaction. The kit will include Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) to booking engines, property asset management systems, channel manager software, hardware design instructions, relevant algorithms and cloud software.

The SME is looking for a commercial agreement with company delivering a Channel Manager, or a Property Management System, or Bedbank software, or hotel wholesaler or Travel agent software, or Online Travel Agency. The company is looking to integrate its API to a travel software partners API, to offer a partial and completely automated smartphone self check-in package to hotels. The travel software partner will need to provide access to their API, or alternatively have an IT team able to work with the companies API to build the integration´s. With the Application Programming Interface´s (API´s), the partner can interface to the company´s smart locks already available on the market place, and take advantage of new customers and offer a complete automated smart phone self check-in package to its customers.

Advantages and Innovations:
Many smaller accommodation facilities are looking for an affordable digital key smart lock solution like that offered by major multinational hotels, but which also offers integration´s to Online Travel Agencies. This solution is the only one that exists in the marketplace and it has been tested with 2 different channel managers, 3 property management systems, and 3 different smart lock providers.
The SME´s technology utilises One Time Password (OTP) (date stamped) technology, Bluetooth Low Energy and Near Field Communications so is more secure and cheaper to deliver than Wi-Fi solutions, z-wave, and zigbee smart-lock solutions. So no maintenance required.
It is the only smart lock on the market that does not rely on a Wi-Fi connection significantly lowering the ongoing maintenance cost.
