Details

Tittle:
A clean energy company with materials for energy generation and storage offers collaboration opportunities in manufacturing, research and development.
Summary:
A Greek company develops, markets, and manufactures materials and components for a range of clean energy applications. It seeks energy systems developers to improve and/or adopt the company´s technology (joint venture or commercial agreement with technical assistance) and universities/R-Y-D institutions to develop next generation materials technologies (technical or research cooperation agreement).
Description:
A Greek company with 20 years of experience in materials research develops materials and components for clean energy applications in transportation, generation, storage. It also manufactures and commercializes electrodes, membranes -Y- membrane electrode assemblies (MEAs) for proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells, electric vehicle range extenders and fuel-cell vehicles, hydrogen purification units, renewable power storage, electrochemical sensors -Y- redox flow batteries.

Furthermore, it builds stacks of 300W-50kW electric power output for several applications such as Auxiliary Power Units (APUs) for marine, trucking, aviation, defense and consumer vehicles, range extenders for hybrid electric vehicles, power and heat sources for use in off-grid residences, remote cabins and telecommunication stations.

It seeks developers of energy systems to help improve the performance of the company´s PEM stack technology and/or integrate it into their own energy system through a joint venture agreement or commercial agreement with technical assistance.

Furthermore, it is seeking universities or R-Y-D institutions for collaboration on next generation polymer membranes in redox flow batteries through a technical cooperation or research cooperation agreement.
Advantages and Innovations:
The major advantages of the company´s technology versus commonly available LTPEM (Low Temperature Polymer Electrolyte Membrane) fuel cells are listed below:

- Simpler system of Advent fuel cells: As a result of not needing the humidifier, compressor and radiator as in the LTPEM system, the company´s system is very simple.

- High quality waste heat from the company´s fuel cells: The waste heat needs to be hot to be of high quality. The waste-heat from the company´s fuel cell (~155°C) is therefore by definition of higher quality than waste-heat from a LTPEM fuel cell (~70°C).

- Lower system cost of the company´s fuel cells: As a result of not needing the humidifier, compressor and radiator as in the LTPEM system, the HTPEM system is built using a very simple internal architecture reducing the Balance Of Plants (BOP) cost to approximately 25% of the fuel cell stack cost.

- The company´s fuel cells are highly tolerant to CO: CO is a known fuel cell poison for LTPEM and is a result of using reform liquid fuels. Due to the elevated operating temperatures of the company´s fuel cells, hydrogen with a higher CO concentration can be used without the same negative impacts on the performance. This makes it possible to directly use hydrogen reformate originating from cheap, and easy to handle energy-carriers such as methanol, ethanol, diesel etc.

- The fuel processor does not need reactors to provide the extra pure hydrogen, so the result is that very simple, lightweight and inexpensive reformers can be used to produce hydrogen from a broad range of energy-carriers.
