1) Inhaler Testing
For particle sizing of the aerosol that leaves the inhaler device, the company uses cascade impactors for aerodynamic characterisation. The company also performs Laser Diffraction measurements, plume geometry/spray pattern, delivered dose uniformity testing, and determination of the air flow resistance of the inhalation product.

2) Prediction of Lung Dose
Prediction of lung dose from inhaler devices is very important and the company is able to offer a validated in-vitro methodology for prediction of lung dose. The analytical method is based on the use of anatomically realistic mouth-throat models in combination of patient-like inhalation profiles.

The general idea behind the concept is to expose the inhaler product to factors that can be expected in a clinical situation, such as mouth-throat geometries and different inhalation flows. In vitro in vivo correlation (IVIVC) studies based on this concept have demonstrated that the dose that passes these throat models at different and relevant inhalation air flows, correlates strongly with the lung dose that was found in clinical lung deposition studies. Moreover, by analyzing and comparing the aerosol doses that survive the small and the large throat models, the "lung dose" variability in an adult population can be estimated. The throat models can be used with cascade impactors, laser diffraction instruments, particle counters or combined with an integral filter downstream the model, which offers a case by case flexibility.
